racedeck vs tuff seal tile

I'm new to this forum. In fact I discovered it doing research on garage flooring. I'm getting to the point that I must decide and order my garage flooring. I've ruled out epoxy for a couple of reasons. I'm pretty much down to choosing between racedeck and tuff seal tile. Racedeck is about half the price when factoring in the Garage Forum discount. The look of racedeck from all the photos posted on this site is great. Has anyone used tuff seal tile? While not excited about spending twice as much I would consider doing so if the quality is that much better. Thanks in advance for your help.

He said he used to sell Racedeck but switch to Tuff Seal Tiles because they were the Cadillac of garage floor tiles. Told me the Racedeck tiles could snap if I turned the wheels of my SUV when pulling into garage. Went on and on about the virtues of Tuff Seal. He went on to say that if Tuff Seal wasn't in my budget now to not put in any flooring and wait until I could afford it. I can afford it but not keen on spending more than I need to for a quality product that wioll do the job. I have a simple two car garage in which I'll be parking two daily drivers. I challked up most of what he said t.o him wanting to sell me the Tuff Seal tiles. But it did let a little doubt about my decision to creep into my mind. I've reviewed several of the threads and realize that there is no perfect flooring. Everyone in this forum seems to be pretty pleased with the Racedeck products and the company's customer service. I know you don't bash the competition but do you have any knowledge/input on Tuff Seal Tiles?

That Tuff Seal looks like a fine product but at double the price of Race Deck I think I would stick with Race Deck.

I do have quite a bit of knowledge on Tuff-Seal and you are right, I am not going to bash a competitors product.
However, if we felt that soft vinyl, or rubber tiles we the better choice for a residential garage, we would make them ( we manufacture vinyl tiles for other applications under the DuraGrid name ). We also would not have engineered the tiles to be suspended and channeled 1/2" to 3/4" tall for liquids and air circulation , if we felt that was not a major issue in the garage enviroment. Lastly, having locks that have zero ability to migrate ( adjust with temperature swings), could make expansion buckling issues a huge issue. Our patent locks are made for cars to roll on and turn into place in your garage.

As for this contractor, I do not know who he is but my guess he has a vested interest in your going with Tuffseal?

I am not saying we are better than other modular styles as fact, it is just we feel from our experience, we feel its the best overall solution and that is why we invented interlocking modular garage flooring long ago.

The 2.79 is the fixed price for the Diamond and Circle patterns. The trim and corners are regular price. They did reduce the price for a pair of their snap on parking guides by $20. $49.95 instead of $69.95.

I have been using RaceDeck since 2005 after I saw it at a motorcycle show near where I live. I started with a 10x20 space and subsequently upgraded when I moved to a bigger garage. The flooring has been great no matter what car or bike has been moved around on it (or what has been spilled on it).

After some scheduling interruptions on my part I finished my installation last night. I love the way the Race Deck floor turned out. The installation was a breeze and I made the cuts with my jig saw. I'll take some pictures and post them tonight.

MDB-TX, you only really need edge pieces where there are door openings. Around the perimiter (up against walls) you just cut the tiles to fit. It will look finished without the added expense of the edges.

I would recommend that you call them at the 800 number on their website. I think that is the only way to get the Garage Journal discount. They can tell you to which product the discount applies. I know it applies to the 12 x 12 diamond and circle pattern. Not sure about any other product. Their customer service is excellent and you will enjoy dealing with them.

I didn't use the border trim and corner pieces for a couple of reasons. First, I'm going to have cabinets 24 inches deep covering most of my wall space. This will cover the seam between the wall and floor. Secondly, as you can maybe see in the pictures I have a 5 inch concrete stud base along most of my side walls. On the portion of walls that are not going to be covered by cabinets I'm going to install a baseboard (probably ceramic tile). This will also cover the seam between the wall and floor tiles. I will use shims to attach the baseboard above the floor tiles to allow them to expand and contract when the temperature changes. I did use the beveled trim at the front of the garage. It gives it a nice finished look.

I was very pleased with the value, customer service, ease of installation, and the finished look. I can highly recommend Race Deck and their products.

I'm very pleased with my decision to purchase Racedeck. We notice no unusual sounds and driving on it has been no problem. I put down a layer of the rolled weed barrier that you can buy at Home Depot. I don't know whether or not that makes a difference but we have no sound issues whatsoever. I figure when paying for a premium garage flooring product why not spend an extra $25.

I compared tuff seal and Racedeck. Very very pleased with the look and performance of Racedeck.

I have since put in cabinets and Racor storage shelves that raise up and down. With the flooring and cabinets our garage is like another room of the house that we enjoy spending time in. I'll try to post some updated pictures this week.

Whatever floor you go with, you do not want any covering that is "water tight" . Concrete holds moisture ( especially in a garage enviroment) and the floor needs to breath. This is why you see mold and mildew under rubber mats and blistering paints & epoxies on floors that were not properly built during construction( vapor barriers) or applied coating.

I am a newbie to this group. My application is a 22'7" X 22'8" garage (530sqft). I have used the Rustoleum Epoxy kit before only to be disappointed in the long run. My current garage floor in my new house (well it's new to me) has a sealer on it and I would have to spend a lot of work to remove it before I applied the Epoxy and sprinkles. The cost of materials is about $300.00 and the cost to have a contractor do the complete job would probably be around $600.00... when I add tax we are talking around $1,000. I'd rather spend $2,500 for a great looking floor that cleans up easily and will last forever. But, before I plunk down the cash I have a few questions that I need answered... hope you can help:

1. I was quoted $3.89 and no shipping fees for the Tuffshield tiles. What is the forum discount for the TuffShield tiles?

2. What do you do about leaves and dirt getting down through the tiles to the concrete? I would think that this would create mold and an awful smell after a while.

3. If the tiles are noisy, how do you correct this problem.

4. Do the tiles feel like you are walking on a funny surface? EG: are they wobbly or do they seem to float.

5. I really would like to use the "White" tiles, but I was told that they will get dirty quickly and they would be hard to keep spotlessly clean. Is this true based on your experience?

6. What do you do if your main or starting wall is not level and has a slight bow in it?

7. Do you feel that this would help when you resell your home about 5 years down the road?

8. I like Photo Gallery pic #242, but I don't have a Red Viper. LOL! I'm afraid that the next buyer of my home may think it is gaudy. What do you think about this design?

Looks awesome! It's easy to get carried away on those flooring designers. I like yours, simple border and solid fill!
