Re: Rick's Audi Double

I got my 7000SLX Quickjack the other day and got everything hooked up and did a dry run lift to half height and check for leaks. No leaks....that's a good start! Doesn't really go down too easily without weight. Will do a lift tomorrow or Friday. Might have to bleed the cylinders again.

I really like the fact that the bottoms of the lifts are flat, and won't leave dimples in my Racedeck. Earlier versions I saw had small feet on the bottoms of the lifts, so I was happy to see my unit doesn't have them. Looks like yours doesn't either, so they must have done away with them.

Do the QuickJacks safely lock in place so you don't need jackstands? I'm considering them myself.

The garage looks great! I've used it for inspiration for my own double.

Always learn more about detailing each time your thread is looked at. Thanks!

Thanks, Odis. I will never profess to know everything about detailing, but I enjoy learning and practicing.

Yeah, it is supposed to work itself in, I'm told. After a good dozen times, I'm hoping it will collapse quicker and smoother. It's good with the car on it, but once the car is clear, it does take a while.

I am also glad about the design on the bottom. It's hasn't left a mark on my RaceDeck floor, which is awesome.

Love the QuickJack's! Very nice.

Thanks, I think it is the perfect solution to my needs.

Yes, they lock in place. I'm holding on to my jack in the event I need to swap one wheel, but the Quickjack is like having 4 jacks in 1. I really like it. Glad you like my garage, and please take whatever idea you would like.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Would it be possible for you to move to a new house so that you can start over? I miss all your updates. Maybe a new brand of car and color just for the fun of it?

#54

Well, if the past is anything to go by, I'm coming up on a new car purchase in a year and a half. Maybe the RSQ5 will be out by then. I'll get an orange one....

We test drove a Macan S the other day and it was a real blast. I'm patiently waiting for the gen 2 SQ5 to come out but doesn't look that will happen till '18 model year.

Love that Audi!

Owned a Macan S for about a year. It is hands down the performance compact utility vehicle. It is almost impossible to believe that it shares so much of its DNA with the Q5. Porsche engines, all wheel drive system and suspensions take the platform to a new level. The GTS is just that much more.

We will see where things are at in a couple of years. Only 50k kms on the SQ5 so no rush to change things up quite yet. I'm 99% sure I'll be driving Audis from here on in.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

My summer holidays have begun so I've been puttering about in the garage. Nothing major going on, but I have been detailing my car pretty much every day! I put together a HD Virtual Tour video along with my latest and greatest detailing project. Click either of the links below if you want to check them out.

Thanks, guys.

Yes, the water flows freely under the floor tiles (thus the name "Free Flow") and right out the garage door.

It's funny how just a garage can "inspire" people. Yes I am one of those people. My garage is cleaner and more organized because of you. It's nowhere near your caliber but it works for now.

If I put the same effort into detailing my fleet that you just put in to editing that video, I could win awards.

Amazing.... Inspiring... if you have a paint by numbers or how-to guide, I would be all over it.

BTW I saw a Zaino sticker on one of your cabinets. I still use it from back in my car show days but I'm not sure if they are still "the best".

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Did you get the Kranzle?

No, I couldn't justify the cost. I couldn't find a Canadian retailer, so getting one from the States was just out of the question given the shipping and exchange hit I would have had to take. I ended up getting a Kobalt from Lowes that is a rebranded AR and it has been just great. The Kranzle will have to wait a while longer...

The movie making is just something I enjoy and I am finding it fun to try new techniques. And, yes, I still have a few Zaino products from back in the day. They came on strong, but just seemed to peeter out after a while. I do really love their Gloss Enhancer spray. Still use it on occasion. Thanks for taking the time to compliment my video work. Glad you enjoy it.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Well, I had some fun sealing up my garage pad and aggregate driveway. "They" say you should do this every 2-3 years, but I am doing it annually. Here's some photos that demonstrate my process.

1. Sealer when up from $119/can to $168.

IMG_5002 by Rick, on Flickr

2. After power washing pad, I used my Master Blaster car dryer to rid the cracks of any moisture.

IMG_5006 by Rick, on Flickr

3. I liberally applied a coat of sealer to the cracks, letting the sealer seep down into the crevices

IMG_5008 by Rick, on Flickr

IMG_5009 by Rick, on Flickr

IMG_5012 by Rick, on Flickr

4. The sealant is applied using a roller. Because the RaceDeck floor sits on top, I don't really fuss too much about the application. A few streaks here and there don't bother me, too much.

IMG_5016 by Rick, on Flickr

5. Finish.

Now, for the driveway:

So, that's all done for another year. I have, by far, the most maintained driveway in the neighbourhood. Some people don't bother with sealing their's and they are showing major age. Not me!

I really like that Master Blaster you've got there. I also like the 'soaping' attachments you are using on your air compressor. Since you are in Canada, I know these toys must at least be accessible to me!

If you ever want to host a Calgary GJ Members workshop on how to detail a vehicle, I'll bring the beer and the donor vehicle :)

Nice work Rick. Solid results.

Yeah, it's actually becoming something I thoroughly enjoy doing. A few frustrations with the process the first couple of years, but I got it down. The driveway looks like candy now.

That Pontiac looks pretty dialled in to me! I love my Master Blaster. Love it. I'm glad I bought a lot of this stuff when the CDN dollar had some strength. Most, if not all, of it came from the US.

Wow Rick, more attention to detail (why am I not surprised?), :) it turned out great!

But I noticed, there were no Vans in any of the pictures? :dunno:

Vans were too dirty, so I had to detail them. Here's a little side-by-side comparison of before and after. Now that they are camera-worthy, you'll be seeing much more of them! LOL

Shoe detail = Blitz APC + Mytee Steamer.

Weather = Mild temps but too much rain, so great for detailing in the garage, but not great for keeping ride clean.

Well, I'm close to the finish line on a completely unnecessary, yet fun little tile project. Heading out of town for the weekend, so the charcoal grout will have to wait until next week. I love the look of it. And, it does brighten up that dark area of the garage.

Looks even better when you consider what it looked like way back when:

Re: Rick's Audi Double

My seemingly straight forward tile project came to completion today. It was way more work than I had anticipated. I probably have north of 20 hours into this thing. I finished it off tonight by installing some trim pieces and touching up the paint work. Here's some shots from the half-way mark to the final result.

I love the look of white subway tile with charcoal grout, but man is it a pain to work with:

This photos shows how off the framer was. I had to fill the void to straighten things out:

Chaos!

I have a few other projects on the go. I deleted the shelf I used to store my jack stands, and I have an aluminum sign on order for that space. It'll take a while for the sign to arrive. Same guy who manufactured the AUDI sign I have. Plus, I'm going to re-stain my cedar garage door this week. Busy busy busy.

Great job Rick!! It really came out nice. I look forward to checking out the new aluminum sign. Dare I ask what it is? :)
