Re: Rick's Audi Double

Does anything actaully happen is this garage, or is this fancy space for show only. It doesn't appear as though much happens. Maybe these pics were new before a car was driven into it. IDK...

What are all the little bottles lined up on hooks for?

Thanks for the question. Feel free to check out some of the videos that I have made that demonstrate what happens in the garage.

Here's a helpful link for you.

I actually LOLd at that post..

HA! Just because its well maintained and organized does not mean its not used. What did you expect? A welding table with a cup of tim hortons with a dodge transmission being rebuilt for the 1,000th time?

FYI - I hate the "typical Canadian" label......(dodge and tims in the cup holder).

Hey, thanks for the support fellas. Truth is, he's right. I just stare at the floor in hopes that something will happen.

Nice garage no doubt. What is your opinion of the Craftsman cabinets.

Thanks. I have been quite pleased with the Craftsman cabinets. They are performing as well as the day I bought them, which was over 5 years ago. Well, some are only 3 years old, but you get the point.

Well it's taken me a couple weeks to read thru this and I absolutely love your garage. You have some great ideas and I will be borrowing some for my garage.

Rick, did you take this photo just for the comment about "actual work" being done? If so, this is great. Love it. If your a Tims coffee drinker, hopefully I didn't offend you in my post.

I have to commend your perseverance. I'm glad to hear you picked up a few tips along your arduous journey through this thread!

Yeah, I was just having fun with the notion that nothing happens in there. And, if it's coffee, I like it, so no worries on that one!

Re: Rick's Audi Double

I was tired of cranking my TV to "80" just to hear the game, so I splurged on a sound bar. Quick and easy install and Bob's your uncle. It's a Yamaha YAS-150 with dual built-in subwoofers. Doesn't quite shake the walls, but it gives everything the acoustic boost I was looking for.

looks great Rick! I also have an AV setup in my garage - 118'' screen with a projector for hockey games, movies and some Xbox(Need For Speed). Nothing like good audio in a work place.

BTW - What polisher do you have? I just ordered a Rupes LHR15 Mark 2 from AutoObsessed - just waiting for it to arrive - 2-3 weeks away.

Yeah, I love what you have done with your AV setup in your space. I like everything you have done in your space, actually. Did you ever get around to doing the decal design?

I have three polishers at present. Two Flex and a mini Rupes. Here's a little info on my arsenal.

Rick,

The car looks simply awesome, so clean and shiny!! And of course both sets of wheels look great.

The sound bar is an interesting way to add sound, it's small and I'm sure services its purpose.

Keep up the good work!

Wow, phenomenal looking garage! Even more credit really, considering the weather conditions you experience. I for one have debated and debated (Ask my wife, she sees me in my garage all the time staring at the floor) about utilizing Race Decking products. I just don't know how you maintain such a clean slate, with experiencing winter conditions, like myself. Props to you! Great organization!

Great rendition by the way, simulating Auguste Rodin sculpture! Your photo certainly has artistic museum quality!

Thanks Budo. The sound bar is exactly what the doctor ordered. No fuss, fills the garage with pretty decent sound. Nothing like some of the AV setups on GJ, but perfect for my purposes.

Yes, it takes a fair bit of maintenance, but this winter has been awesome since Christmas. Very dry conditions. I have pulled the floor out onto the driveway exactly twice this winter. Have you seen the videos I threw together that show the cleaning process?

Hi Jay, thanks for the compliment. The garage is 24' at its deepest, and 24' at its widest. Not quite a true square though. I'm not entirely sure of the height, but around 10'. The door is 16x8. Here's the layout:

Which colour did you get in your SQ5? Are you in Canada or the US?

Rick, continued awe at your work and commitment. I've adopted many of your ideas in my garage. Can you advise on the type of grease you're using on your wheel spacers? Mine seem to fuse to the brake disk after use. thanks.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

So winter is nearly over... Thinking of changing mine over this weekend. But unlike you, I must clean my tires I take off before storing ;) Like the wheels, had some like those earlier on the previous car:

_full.jpg

BTW, like your bolt/stud idea to get the tire on properly, will need to fabricate something like that also. So much easier to get the wheel aligned I suppose.

Also, I do think the soundbar is a completely different animal to tv-speakers. Must be a hundred times better.

Not Rick, but will jump in and say I use just plain copper paste. It is visible, so interesting what Rick's view is, if he has something better in use.

Thanks, Matias. Last time, I had to use an air hammer to get the spacer off my e46 hub.

Wow. Nice detailing collection!

Question though, I see you have your supplies right next to the garage door, are you worried about heat/cold cycles doing anything to your products?

it feels like it too... lol did you see my layout?

That's a pretty sensible layout. I like the lack of stairs that can **** up space to the house. What are your plans?

I just picked up a basic anti-seize lubricant at the local auto supply place. It worked well over the course of the winter. Not anything special, though.

Well, I may not have to know snow off my wheels, but man do I ever have to clean them up before storing them. We do enjoy pretty dry (but cold) winters. This year was particularly mild, however.

The sound bar is a great upgrade. Quick and easy install too.

Yes, the hanger is a great help. It came with the tire kit in the car.

I know what you are saying. I am amazed that they don't get cold being so close to the door. It's a warm space year-round regardless of the zone.

I need to do a mezzanine because of the lack of storage. but my ceiling of the garage is at 15' so I have alot of space.

will want/need a epoxy scealant for the concrete. no racedeck for me cuz I know that with quebec's winters it will be a pain in the @ss to clean.

want something on the wall that can be wet without any issues... because I will wash my SQ5 and girlfriend's car alot in it. not sure what to install, for now its is gonna be on dry wall.

not sure for lighthing (need to know asap because the electrician will be there next week)

not sure about the heating either.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Since my last update, I went ahead and purchased a QuickJack portable lift and I have been loving it. I was able to use it this past weekend to tackle a "wheel off" wash and I was very pleased with the lift's performance. Here's a few shots of it in the space. I love how I was able to fit the control unit in one of my blue Craftsman cabinets and the frames stow nicely away on either side of the garage. I put a video together that shows it in action. Check it out if you are interested.

Here's the video

Oh, and I completed the "Dubber Rear Wiper Delete" modification. Car is way faster now.

The video is crazy, nice work. Seems like that jack is the perfect application for you, and maybe me..... Hmmm.... I guess since the rails are moveable you can control exactly where it lines up for the lifting points.

Wiper delete looks perfect. :thumbup:The way it should have been haha

Thanks, Dubber. The QuickJack moves around so easily on the RaceDeck so positioning it is a breeze. No more lugging the floor jack from wheel to wheel for this kid.

Would it be possible for you to move to a new house so that you can start over? I miss all your updates. Maybe a new brand of car and color just for the fun of it?
