Re: Rick's Audi Double

Rick what brand are the pumps on those 1 gallon containers of detail products? do they leak? Looking at Chemical Guys pumps but the reviews are mixed...

Griot's. They work well. I have lots of Griot's spouts, but they don't seem to make a strong seal.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

I've had a lot of trouble with Griot's pumps and especially with the spigots you can get for their gallon jugs; the odds are about even on any particular spigot making a good seal with the jug. Very annoying!

Yeah, they are just generic spigots, I've given up. Plus they clog up and I end up just pouring straight from the bottle every time. I'm sticking with lids and a little funnel from now on. But, my pump does work pretty good.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Spent the better part of the week sanding and re-staining my carriage garage door. The cedar really looks nice now. I never cared for the bland stain our builder insisted on using. Here's some shots of the door when it was raw, builder stained, and now stained with Australian Timber Oil by Cabot. I like how it turned out:

Thanks for all the compliments on the door, guys. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. This place is now 99% dialled in.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Just wondering because I have the RaceDeck under my MaxJax lift. I cut around the towers for the lift.

I haven't had many issues but using jack stands and stuff - I have to use extra RaceDeck scraps to protect the flooring.

I was just wondering how yours where holding up - since I have scratched a couple.

Yeah, I used a heavy duty rubber mat to protect the floor against damage when using my jack/jackstands, too. With the QuickJack, the weight is evenly dispersed in such a way that it doesn't cause any damage whatsoever, from my experience.

I appreciate the time you must have spent reading about my garage antics. It has been a fun and rewarding journey to get to this point. Sharing the progress with others has made it all the more fun. Yes, one of my favourite features of the space is the RaceDeck floor. It is perfectly suited to my needs.

Hi Rick

what are the covers on the tires .. warmers or just to preserve the rubber?

thanks
Matt

The tire totes make it easier and cleaner to handle the wheels. Plus, they just look cool.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

When I brought those wheels in to the dealer for a tire swap, they replaced the Tire Rack totes with Audi brand covers. I thought that was a nice gesture on their part.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

About a year ago, I coerced my photographer friend into capturing some shots of my garage and I loved what he was able to do. I had him back in there last night to capture some photographs of me doing stuff. He is still working on them, but he sent this little teaser. If this is any indication of what I can expect, I am going to be very pleased.

That is awesome. Oh and thanks to you I just bought my first polisher. The griots 6". Now I just need to learn how to use it. I always liked my cars and bikes clean but was never taught that there is another level after just washing. It was after looking through your posts that I started looking into what detailing really is.

that's pure Batman as gritty mechanic! Looking forward to more .. what great lighting

Yeah, it does look a little more sinister in this pic than it probably did in reality. I love the magic of photography when done by someone who knows what they are doing!

It's a great tool and you'll find it easy to use. There are so many "how to" videos out there, and Griot's has some really good ones. Detailing is becoming quite the thing nowadays, you'll find there's always something new to do and learn. Enjoy your new toy!

How do you keep this place so clean all the time

Honestly, it's a matter of having a place for everything and everything in its place. Being organized means any effort I need to clean isn't such a big deal. Your place seems pretty well organized and clean also, so you know what I'm talking about.

It's an OCD nightmare to upkeep tho. That's my pet peeve. I love neat, clean, organize. But so much efforts. Lol

Re: Rick's Audi Double

I've been saying it for years, but I think I am truly at the point where I need to stop obsessing about the garage and its design and layout. At least for a while. I received a sign I ordered from Enthusi-works (eBay) and got it all mounted on my big grey wall. I didn't like the red, so I hand painted it the same colour as my TV wall. I think it looks pretty good and it pays some homage to my favourite bike maker. Just a few pics:

Ah ok.. yeah I agree. Paint it...

Wait, did that help or hurt your situation? ;)

Hurt, help, it's all the same at this point! I'll break out my paint sprayer for this one. That way, it will be the same red as the stripe that's below. Thx.

Damn that's cool Rick!! I've been looking at those myself..but haven't been convinced to pony up the $ for one. Looks like it's working out well for you! Do you just have them on top of the racedeck?
