I went to all 4 of my local Radio Shacks. Two of them were empty shells, nothing was left but the floor tile and the lights, and the other two had stickers on the cabinets saying SOLD! I asked who bought them and they told me the manager did.

I hope some of you have better luck!

Re: Radio Shack small-part storage cabinets?

Anyone know witch stores in the Houston, TX area that are still clearing out stuff? I would really like to get my hands on some of these drawers.

Does anyone know how far into the end of March should I go in for bigger mark down, like 80-90% off? A week, 3days, or a day before end of March?

I went into a corporate store with a month left to go and the manager sold me the cabinets @ $75 per. I think it all depends on the manager.

Re: Radio Shack small-part storage cabinets?

I called every location around here in Kansas City. I'm guessing quite a few are closed and gone since there was no answer multiple times. The couple that did pick up the displays were already sold.

My garage internet is really slow in loading pics today, but has anyone mentioned what brand they are?

I know that Lista & Vidmar is basically the Cadillac of storage cabinets, but I bought a Rousseau from Fastenal for $34. It looks just like a Lista or Vidmar, but I know it's not the weight of either.

But even if you can get the cabinets for $175.....that sounds like a good deal to me. My cabinet has 9 drawers, and with no more floor space than it takes up, you can store a ton of stuff in them.

$34? What did you get exactly? got a pic?

Rousseau along with other players are all the same level competitors (400lbs/drawer) to me but it's a lot more affordable than Lista or Vidmar. Rousseau (30" wide x 28" depth) is about $120-$130/drawer while Lista and Vidmar is about $200/drawer. If this was a SO tool box forum, Vidmar and Lista are quite cheap to them.

With that being said, I like Lista's drawer handle; it's a clean look, not too industrial like other brands.

I think he left out some numbers by accident.

I've been to 6 or 7 local Radio Shacks and every one had "sold" stickers on all of the small parts cabinets. All were marked with the same persons' name so I guess either somebody needs a LOT of storage, or I'll be seeing the cabinets on Craig's list.

Who knows?
Not at the stores local to me. Lady was quite "firm" that the price was set by "corporate". She wouldn't budge a bit.

The "official" price was $175 per 7 drawer cabinet at each of the 3 stores I visited. I bought 7 at $75 and 8 @ $125.

It all depends on the manager and how many you buy in my opinion.

One manager passed up a liquidator offer @ $90 per to sell to me for 3 @ $75.

I got these white versions at a corporate store for $300. They are practically brand new.

Yup, flippin flippers scooping up the good stuff. Probably gonna try and triple thier money too

Ive seen ads locally for folks trying to flip these and wish them good luck. None have sold from what Ive seen and I suspect its bc even with the stores selling them at ~$100 thats the top of the price range for most folks.

Around here they're stuck on 175 but to tell the truth they aren't very sturdy. I couldn't find a brand name on them but they weren't lista. I don't want any of them, very thin gauge metal. If you were going to use them for the same thing radio shack used them for then yeah, might work out ok but for tools, NO .

Re: Radio Shack small-part storage cabinets?

I noticed that the three in my town are closing. I stopped by one and they all had sold stickers on all eight of them. The manager told me someone bought them and the other two other store's cabinets for $175 each. I agree after thoroughly checking them out they are good enough for whats in them. Anything more then I would worry about weight and them supporting the tray that sits in them.

Hello guys! I was wondering if anyone who bought any of the cabinets who weren't using the paper labels that they came in would possible consider giving them to me? I'd pay for shipping, of course. I bought 2 of the cabinets (roughly 25 1/4" high, 23 5/8" wide, 16 1/2" deep) but I couldn't get the ones I wanted because they were already sold to other customers. I'd really like at least the papers for fuses, capacitors, resistors, diodes, and whatever else. I'd even be willing to pay some money for them if it'd be the only way I could get someone to send them to me. Please let me know. I want the papers on the drawers and then the papers on the dividers (that have part numbers, prices, etc). Thank you!

Yes and better quality. These things are a joke compared to a true industrial cabinet.

They certainly don't compare to a heavy duty "industrial" cabinet...but they work GREAT for me. I've been using mine for at least a decade with smaller tools, etc. Very effective at organizing. They're holding up just fine with no issues. (My Ford Excursion does all I need it to do....even if it doesn't compare to a Western Star)

A joke? Not for me...the slides still work nice and smooth...even with a fair amount of weight. Agreed, in the store they onlyholdlight weight stuff....but they're designed for and used in a retail store so they can't be made that flimsy.

I just picked some up yesterday in great condition. Unfortunately I mis-measured (my fault) and won't fit in the intended spot so will most likely sell them soon.

These drawers are not bad but there not Lista's either. I measured the metal thickness on the drawers and it's about .045" (18 gauge) better than most big box tool chest's, the bases and internal frames are thicker. The drawers are ball bearings and there is not too much side play (unlike Craftsman's) with a firm distinct locking when drawers are fully closed. The internal drawer height clearance is 3.25" which is not bad if you had to just pick one height.

The grey plastic tray have non removable dividers (running front to back) but the dividers with the label tabs are adjustable or removable. If you remove the grey plastic tray then you have no solid bottom like in the pic. Not a huge problem, easy to insert a sheet of metal or plywood. These are about just as hefty as US General Pro HF boxes but look a lot better. I would certainly choose these orver any big box version except Menards MasterForce.

They are not light, definitely need two people to load and unload.

Well, here is the "rest of the story." I forgot to post it sooner.

I was right, about 2 weeks ago a listing appeared on Craig's List for Radio Shack store fixtures, so I called. They were at a "location" on the northwest side of the city, which is outside my daily travels, and why I missed it in my earlier visits to the stores in my vicinity. When I got there, it was a former Radio Shack, but the close out was being run by a liquidator.

When I emailed the Craig's List contact. they told me $ 100 for each set of parts drawers. When I arrived at the store, the kid working asked me how much I was quoted, so I said $ 75.00 each. He got on his cel phone and was discussing it with a woman, whose voice I could hear. She asked him how many I wanted, and when I said 3 sets, she said "sell them to him for $85.00. So, I drove away with 3 at 85, on top of which they added the sales tax.

It was funny, the drawers still had all those electronic parts that Radio Shack used to sell. After the kid hung up the phone, he asked me how much I would pay if he left the parts in the cabinet. I probably could have used a FEW of a couple of those parts, but really couldn't use most of them, they would have been more stuff to store and move around, so I told him to keep it all. That kind of ticked him off, so he said he needed a couple of hours to empty them. I went down the road and had a burger and a beer and went back. The drawers were empty, all the stuff had been dumped into one big box, about 3' square. That must have taken him 10 minutes.

There wasn't much left in the store, but I'll be in the neighborhood tomorrow and will drive by to see what is going on. If they are still there, I'll see about picking up a couple more. If not, well, it will be a nice ride.

Funny how most of the people that bought them aren't keeping them. Small parts storage is one thing, but a tool box, no especially without modification.

I use mine for mostly tools. One drawer is holding electrical stuff, but others have measuring tapes, torx drivers, air pressure gauges/inflators, mini pliers, angle grinder, cutoff tool, safety glasses, drill bits..all kinds of stuff.

I have two of them loaded down with nuts, bolts ,screws, all kinds of fasteners etc. They work perfectly.
These cabinets are more then adequate. Just because they are not industrial/military grade doesn't mean they are not quality cabinets. Plus they came with trays and labeled dividers.
In my opinion definitely worth 100 to 150 bucks.

One person locally must have bought up a bunch of them since they keep trying to sell them for $350 each. Trying, is the key word, since they don't seem to sell.

I wish I had space for them, but you can do just as well with Ikea at those prices for lightweight consumer stuff.

Spork, I'll send you the labels from mine if you can use them. Send me a PM with your contact info. This will be a busy weekend, but next weekend I'll pull them off. I have 3 cabinets, do you want them al?

If I send them to you folded, is that okay? As in folded and put into a 9"x12" mailing envelope.

Yes, folded would be fine. If you're not using them, I'd like them all. How much do you want for them? I'm going to send you a PM right now.
