Trend in Florida for a while were different kinds of rain chains and other things instead of downspouts. Kind of cool looking when it rains.

Bigger downspouts usually go with larger gutters. If yours are draining well as is, there's probably no reason to change them.

In south alabama it often rains so hard that one downspout can't handle it so then you get overflow and some backing up around the facia over the top of the gutter.

Options. What he said. Two.

Or bigger

A couple nice houses have copper chains and they look cool. I'm just not sure how well the work with hurricane winds.

In the Houston area we can get 15 inches of rain in 12 or so hours. Big downspouts are good when that is happening. The best thing I've found is that the big ones hardly ever get clogged with leaves. Everything just blasts through. :)

Go outside and check if they are overflowing during a real heavy rain.

^ ^ ^ ^ This. Never, EVER, NEVER just put in 2"x3" downspouts. Upgrade to at least 3"x4".

Here is something I did. I have a place where there is a lot of volume flowing thru it on occasions even with the large downspout. I drilled a few holes near the top of the "cap" to allow the overflow to escape on that end. It's located away from the above grade foundation that has no basement.
