You don't want to trust what you might read in an internet "link" or a picture that you see in a book without knowing the full theoretical basis and having the numerical justification.
I have seen many houses with the walls pushed out in a lifetime practice.
The best advice is hire a local "Structural" Engineer, have him do a little drawing for you, apply his state issued "seal", and off you go. You, and the future owners of the property, are protected from physical harm and liability exposure.
Be aware that Engineers are like Doctors; they are all specialized.
