I finished the ratchet and socket drawer and have more than I need, but it's always fun collecting tools. Like some others, I have an unhealthy addiction to buying tools. I have some SnapOn ratchets, but most of the sockets aren't SnapOn - they are just too expensive. I think GearWrench makes some great rachets and sockets for the money and I really like their 120XP ratchets. The latest addition was the 24" breaker bar. I doubt I will need that, but always good to have just in case. 20230202_161807 (002).jpg

There are sockets laying down in that drawer. That means you've got more room!
Don't forget the trays.. ;)
But to the OP, very nice organized tool box you have there. I wish I had the organizational bug that way. But as you said you like to collect tools so you will soon run out of room and start lookin for ways to save space while also adding more tools and then adding another tool box and another one and.................................................................... :)

Nice! The left upper corner green rubber hanle one is SK 1/2" breaker bar?
Very good. Yes, it came with a 1/2" SK socket set I bought in 1976 while in college and looks brand new. I found it tucked away in the original green metal case and moved it into the socket drawer. The is when SK was one of the best tool makers.

Yes, I am out of space in this box and need another one if I want to add on more.

Yes, you are right. I kept some of the GearWrench and Dewalt blow molded cases to keep the sockets and ratchets organized in, but I suppose I could put them upright in socket racks. I don't have my impact sets in the box - left those in the cases on the shelf - very heavy. Just have the swivel set of impacts in the drawer. The 1/2" Sunnex set weights a ton. All the drawers are full and the pliers, screwdriver and wrench drawers are pretty much like this one - maxed out. I think I have over 100 screwdrivers. I keep the metric wrenches in one drawer and the SAE in another. Below that I have all the bit sets. I like this box because it has big drawers and some smaller ones. In the top I have all my battery drill/drivers and chargers. It has plugs and a light in top. Great box. I can send some additional photos if you guys would like to see them. Alway love looking at toolbox tours. But as DYI guys, do we really need as many tools a professional mechanics - no. I also have a lot of woodworking tools since I dabble in woodworking.

I’d have selection anxiety with that many ratchets. I have 1 swivel head 1/4” SO, a Long 3/8” flex head SO and I rarely ever use the other few ratchets I have.

nice drawer collection... Do you have a favorite ratchet?
I like the SnapOn ratchets the best, with GearWrench second. But for the money, Dewalt makes a nice rachet and they are very comfortable in the hand. When I change the oil, I always seem to grab the Dewalt 1/2" - it feels great in the hand, it's beefy and I can get good leverage. A higher tooth count is better and the GearWrench 120XP are very smooth and fast. They also did very well in a ratchet comparison by Project Farm.

You got your ratchets and sockets all in one drawer? LOL My main box is a 42" Waterloo
Here is the socket drawer, the 3/8 dr drawer,1/4" drawer, cased socket drawer,1/2" drawer, etc. Of course this doesn't include the "collectibles" like the Plomb drawer, the Proto drawers,The Craftsman boxes, and more. I'm beginning to sense a reason I have very little room and its very hard to work in my garage,

I can get about 70% of my sockets into my 2 socket drawers in my main box. It is only a 53” double bay that is 24” deep. I would like something wider and 30” deep.

Metric drawer and SAE drawer.

In theory, if I could swing a box with a 72”x30” drawer, I could put both of those drawers in one drawer.

The OP could put so many more sockets in his socket drawer if he went with a more dense storage method.

Huge selection and very well organized. I typically only see mechanics that have this many sockets. I have my impact socket sets still in their cases on the shelf. To get those in the drawer, I would need to take out the cases and go with the socket trays or racks to get all of them upright.

I could certainly tidy up mine by eliminating the trays, but my eyesight is helped along by the pegs. I also don't turn a wrench daily. I need to have a really big, well organized yard sale. I still have my 68" Harbor Freight stored with my former employer. When the weather gets clear and warmer, I really need to think about re-arranging to get it "home" That would lead to another 150 sockets and a few ratchets that would need placing.

From the looks of that drawer I have to ask, "do you just collect tool or do you also use them?"

Lay off. OP said they like collecting tools and they're obviously posting because they just completed their drawer setup meaning at least some of those are brand new. I'm in my shop every single day of my life and you would probably say the same thing about my tools. As a home shop guy, there's just no way your tools are ever going to look like a full-time greasemonkey's.

The tools in this box are fairly new and don't get a lot of use. I do use them, but nothing like a full-time grease monkey. And the other poster is correct, I like collecting tools, so more of a collector and occasional user. I just wanted to have a nice collection of tools and what I need to handle any particular job around the house. I am also into woodworking, and that has been a rabbit hole of tool spending.

Nice job by the op. I went with a cheaper box as well. More $ for tools. I’m not a professional mechanic so my box will never leave my shop.

My socket sets are Tekton, gear-wrench for impacts. My sets are in the cases currently, but just ordered the Westling USA organizer kits so I will be transitioning when they arrive.

I couldn't justify spending $5,000 on a SnapOn box and thousands on their sockets. The Husky box I have is a very nice box, especially for the price. It's heavier gauge steal and the drawers are very smooth and have an auto close feature. A socket is a socket, but I didn't want cheap ratchets. If we were gearheads for a living, then it could be justified to have $50K in tools or more. I did get a full set of SnapOn metric sockets, ratchets and extensions just to have one set. Man, are they expensive. I got that in a 3/8" set since that is the size you will use the most.

That is a very nice setup. Having those trays sit flat would drive me nuts lol. But still nice. I do this for a living there are some things I’ll buy from Snap-on and other tool trucks but for the most part I just like to buy tools from every brand haha. I won’t waste my money on their sockets even as a professional. I’ve bought a few individually just to try and they aren’t worth it in my opinion. Now their ratchets I love them. I usually grab my Snap-on over my Matco or any others but they all get used. I have a mix of everything.

Good to know from a professional mechanic. I could move all the sockets to socket rails and possibly get all the impact sockets in there, but the drawer would be very heavy. The impacts are in blow molded cases and not in the tool box as I don't use them much since I don't work on cars for a living. I do find it easier to grab a socket out of the trays because I can easily see the sizes on top of the treys. When they are on a rail and standing up, I can't see the size and they are more difficult to remove, but not a big deal.

And they do. Funny, I was never into tools until about 4 years ago. I had a minimal amount of tools or what most homeowner/DIY people have. Admittedly, I way overdid it for my needs and blew a lot of money.

DRider, great set up you’ve got there. The one advantage of them laying down is you can orient them with the markings up for easy viewing. I’d love to have a long drawer that I can put all of my sockets in. I opted for an older Snap On box and although it’s built like a tank, it’s got smaller drawers.

Thanks. Hard to beat a SnapOn box for quality, even an older one. The big drawer with depth is nice for ratchets and sockets.

I got tired of never having the right socket when I needed it so I bought a bunch of Tekton socket sets. I haven’t used many of them but I plan to buy even more so I have everything I need, when I need it. It’s only metric. I only use SAE once in a very rare blue moon so there’s a set tucked away. It makes me happy to see the tools available and ready to go.

What do y'all think of those new all drawer Tekton roller cabs.? I'm keeping my eye on those for a bit...Might pull the trigger but I like making damn sure before I drop over a couple G on anything. I could drop 5-6 on a SO and know for sure but if the Tekton is as sweet as rumored...well common sense has to take over.It comes in at 3G. For now the 44 General hasn't collapsed....10 years in.
48 x 27/ 7 drawer is a healthy beast of a box for me. The way they (and I) make all kinds of gadgets and many tools have trays and cases these days so little junk drawers are out. Small and fairly shallow works for me. Power tools and the like go in cabinets.
I'm a machinery and motorcycle/mud jeep jumper guy, not a full time auto wrench. A Tekton with a Big Montezuma Triangle up top would be pretty sweet.
