there are many that can be swapped but the generally need to be from the same parent mfg.
example. sk made ratchets for many companies including but not limited to klein, gambles, western giant, jcpenny and kraueter. those ratchets will all accept current mfg sk rebuild kits
new britain, sparta, napa, etc would be another group.
you just have to know your ratchets i quess.
the danaher family would include the matco 60/88, craftsman 84, gearwrench 60/84 and armstrong 60/88. you may need to use the cover plate, direction lever and snap ring or screws that are original to the ratchet but as long as the gear-pawl pair is correct the seem to work. i have personally put the matco 88 in a gearwrench with no problem and people seem to be doing the others with no isses.
the only issue is you obviosly need to watch in to mate the 88 gear with and 88 pawl and the same with 60 and 84 to acheive proper tooth mesh.
