after reading a thread on here. i seen someone said that you can swap the 88 tooth repair kit from Matco. in to a gear wrench ratchet. Is there any other brands that can be swapped? like snap on maybe with a durlast ratchet?

I've swapped a Matco 88 into a GearWrench but in my case you needed the old GW spring clip to make it work. The new Matco spring clip was thicker and made the ratchet bind.

there are many that can be swapped but the generally need to be from the same parent mfg.

example. sk made ratchets for many companies including but not limited to klein, gambles, western giant, jcpenny and kraueter. those ratchets will all accept current mfg sk rebuild kits

new britain, sparta, napa, etc would be another group.

you just have to know your ratchets i quess.

the danaher family would include the matco 60/88, craftsman 84, gearwrench 60/84 and armstrong 60/88. you may need to use the cover plate, direction lever and snap ring or screws that are original to the ratchet but as long as the gear-pawl pair is correct the seem to work. i have personally put the matco 88 in a gearwrench with no problem and people seem to be doing the others with no isses.

the only issue is you obviosly need to watch in to mate the 88 gear with and 88 pawl and the same with 60 and 84 to acheive proper tooth mesh.

This must be the sentence that you forgot to read. i have a example. I guess i shouldnt have asked.

You did fine on asking, and this is a topic that will be good to clarify since there are so many different brands with the same manufacturers and parts.

Thank you for starting this thread as I was wanting to do the same and was very interested in the swaps. I am going to do the first swap in my 3/8 stubby that I ordered yesterday from Cripe Dist. I look forward to more info on other ratchets and swaps.

Next on my list is the 1/2 Armstrong Maxx and a 3/8 standard GW.
