I may have asked this before but can't find it. Who makes an adaptor that goes on a ratchet to use the next drive size socket but doesn't take up any extra space and does not make the combination any longer? They are like a square ring.

Facom makes them.

K-D used to sell a complete set, but they were not very durable and I dont think the product carried over to GW.
Looks like Bahco has them also, maybe more popular in Europe.

Everyone seems to have a version. Snap On and Koken also have their designs.

In the past I've also seen some that have knurling or ridges on the rim for turning by hand.

The ones with magnetic retention are not what I would recommend. I have a set of the Grey Pnuematic magnetic ones, and all the Koken offerings that work so much better with the standard ball system. The Koken work great. The magnetic ones work OK, but I sure like the Koken better personally, and the Koken you get the knurled edges that give you a nice finger hold.

I agree. I bought the magnetic style first as it was what I first saw available, but then later I bought the Titan when I saw them posted here. If not concerned by the added height, the ball retention like the Titan, or Koken, is definitely better. The magnet style does work, but you need to be careful as socket retention is weak.

I have this set of adaptors like these for use on a ratcheting box wrench. Thumb wheel, low profile, O-ring wrench retention, detent ball, and QR all included! Thinner than most ratchet/adaptor combos.

I like the Ultra Steel ones from O’Reillys.
Here’s some pics when they were new:

Snap-on 1/4 w/ adaptor vs. S-K 3/8 in 1/4 body:

The original ones were by Starr Products. Some of the rebranded ones came in different packaging but still had the Starr name on them. I picked up a new old stock set not long ago hiding forever in the back stockroom at a NAPA:

Interesting, I thought that these were a newer product, but that Starr package looks like it's 10+ years old. Anyone know when these were first introduced?

^ just ordered two. we'll see how they do. thanks!
The packaging hang tag is cheap looking but they are made in Taiwan and are good quality. I’ve bought several. They have went up in price over the past couple years, but still very reasonable.
