Is that a ratchet on the ground??

Yes, that is an old S-K ratchet. It had been setting with some other clutter I cleaned off of the ledge of the Snap-On's roll cab. It fell off onto the floor while I moved the other stuff to take the pic. Missed picking it up when I snapped the pic.

Hope everyone had a good weekend! Time for more ratchet pics........... :bounce:

Here we have a bunch of 3/8" drives of mixed brands, with a few vintage models shown.

18mixedbrands5proto4plopg2.jpg

Left to right:

1) Kraueter (S-K makes/made them, unusual handle style)
2) Fleet
3,4, & 5) Snap-On (showed up after the all Snap-On pic, yet to come ;) )
6, 7, & 8) Proto
9 & 10) Proto Professional (think they are the same as 6, 7, & 8, Proto just added the work "Professional")
11) Bon-E-Con
12) Craftsman (older model that didn't make it into the earlier Craftsman pic's)
13) Plomb (Handles are the flat factory machined type, flat on front and back, flush with the ratchet head. #13 ratchet also appears to be a fraction longer than the other Plombs??)
14) Plomb (handle factory machined flat on front and back, flush with the ratchet head)
15) Plomb (this one has the small Plomb script)
16) Plomb (A WF model. I've heard WF means Wright Field, but also have heard WF means War Finish specifications??)
17) Bonney (Vintage :))
18) Duro-Chrome (way cool, has female driver on one side, male drive on the other, and a reversing lever)

Okay..........time for the bad pun of the day......................"Hey, 'HOUND! Hows 'bout some Snap-Ons.....and make it Snappy!!!!!!!!.............and share some of that turtle soup since we're talkin' Snappy!!"

:lol_hitti

The count to 400 continues.....................

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 134 3/8" Drives, 352 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 400: 49. )

Good afternoon..............more ratchets on the way.

Been having trouble with my photo hosting service :( , so taking some extra effort. But with 7417 Views last I checked............the thread continues to draw interest..........so it is worth it......... :)

Here is most of the 3/8" drive Snap-On ratchets, believe there are 18 in this pic:

16SnapOnAllYears1BluePoint1ParXRevi.jpg

From left to right:

1) 1931 F-70 (notice the lack of screws holding the cover plate on, plate was pressed into place)
2) 1936 F70A (this belongs to a complete 1937 ferret set I dug up in the garage)
3) 1939 (appears to have been added at a later date to the ferret set, as it was in the same case, but dated later than the 1936-1937 dates the other pieces did)
4) 1940 (hard to read, might be earlier??)
5, 6, & 7) (got in to big of a hurry, didn't check dates on the rest of these, surprised some didn't have date codes, these are the I-beam handle style ratchets. 5 is a FV-71, 6 is a FV-71, 7 is a GFN-720 railroad or black finish ratchet)
8) F-70-M (I think)
9) ?
10) GF-70 S (I think. It is a railroad or black finish ratchet)
11) GF 720 N (Another railroad or black finish ratchet)
12, 13, 14) Old, but more modern than the rest
15, & 16) Black handled ratchets
17) Blue Point
18) Par-X

Okay,...............have a set or two to highlight before we get in to the 1/4" drive stuff................stay tuned. :bounce:

The march to 400 continues.....................

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 152 3/8" Drives, 370 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 400: 31. )

The FV rats are military. Usually do not have a date codes. The military tools, (post 1945) usually have the second letter in the model number as a V... eg. FV, SV . this is the case about 95% of the time.

Very nice, post a pic of your 1937 ferret set. Does it have a decal on the lid? I just went through all my stuff to complete a 1935 ferret set, and may have any parts your missing (if any).

The case is well worn, no decal.

Look for the old Snap-On stuff to be posted in your old "Vintage Snap-On" thread, some time in the days ahead.

A few pieces from the 20's I'd be interested in adding.

Cant find it, link? I have a very nice case from this era (with the grey paint with a green tint) and the original decal for sale/trade.

Coming to the end of the 3/8" drives........thought I'd highlight a couple of sets..........

First up a Snap-On Buick "Know How" set awarded to a local Buick dealer's "Mechanic of the Year".............The 3/8" drive ratchet and all the metric sockets are engraved with the Buick emblem, and "Know How", just like on the metal cover. It also came with a matching leather pouch, with a set of metric short handle wrenches, also engraved.

Up next, one of the most unique female drive sets I've come across..........believe it is antique.......and remarkably, in like new condition  ............we'll be back..........

The march to 400 continues............

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 135 3/8" Drives, 353 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 400: 48. )

Good Morning Americans (and viewers worldwide!).............It's Friday!!!

Speaking of viewers, at 9:50AM Central time on the morning of November 21, we officially now have had over 8000 views!!:thumbup:

Up next, only one I've seen, (but there's a lot I haven't seen come to think of it.......:lol_hitti:lol_hitti..........snapmom is proving that! ). Anyway, here is a rare 3/8" female drive socket set, like new in it's original metal case. It even has the cardboard thingy that nearly always is discarded soon after purchase. I'm guessing it dates from the 30's/40's?

Notice all the interchangeable parts. The handle is it's own piece. The ratchet head is it's own piece. The male ended extensions can be used for a variety of combinations, as short or long beams for a ratchet, or breaker bar, or nut driver. The wobble, and the small 3/8" male drive can also be incorporated in several ways as well. Put the rod through the handle and you can make a long or short "T-Handle" depending on the extension you use, let the imagination go.................

Williams3EigthDriveUniqueSetCaseClo.jpg

Williams3EigthDriveUniqueSetCaseOpe.jpg

Williams3EigthDriveUniqueSetCase-1.jpg

Concluding the 3/8" drives for now.......(will probably find more later)............

Of all these 3/8" ratchets:

0 Napa
0 Matco
0 Allen
0 Kobalt
1 Cornwell
1 Mac
1 Snap-On less than 10 years old (best I can tell)

Alright, time to move into the 1/4" drives.....:).............on deck...............:bounce:

Continuing the count to 400..........

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 136 3/8" Drives, 354 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 400: 47. )

Umm, I think you should sell some of your "duplicates" off and buy some tools you really want to use... maybe buy some of the Snapon stuff you sold awhile ago? :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thought I'd post some more 1/4" drives this evening........if I don't fall asleep from all the Turkey............ :) ..............

10MixedRatchets5VintageCraftsmanEtc.jpg

From left to right:

1)Antique Craftsman "BE"
2,3,4,&5) Old Craftsman, with the Snap-On like head 40s(?) 50s(?)
6) Thorsen
7) Williams
8) Armstrong
9) Snap-On
10) No Markings, but I think someone said it is made by Wright? Has the push through reversing lever.

That bottom thing I won't count as a ratchet, though it is 1/4 drive. Think it is from overseas, over half the teeth are stripped, but it is a curious design.

More 1/4" drives to come...........

The march to 400 continues...............

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 136 3/8" Drives, 20 1/4" Drives, 374 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 400: 27. )

Alright..........today/tomorrow has arrived........................LOL :spit:

13 More 1/4" drive beauties..................... :)

13MixedBrand7Craftsman3SKetcRevi-1.jpg

From left to right:

1) Craftsman (Antique, has a H with a circle around it)
2) Craftsman (Said to have been made by Plomb in the 30s or 40s)
3) Craftsman (the old one, with the Snap On like head)
4) Craftsman (another old one, this one with the Art Deco reversing lever)
5 & 6) S-K
7) Craftsman (Another Snap On like one, this one has had the male drive turned around to face the same side as the reversing lever)
8) Indestro
9) S-K
10) Snap-On
11) Snap-On (ratchet head, shown with a brand new 1/4" drive Snap-On breaker bar)
12) Craftsman (the much respected fine tooth/thumb wheel/quick release only sold in the Sears catalog)
13) Craftsman (Sears most current flat panel offering, with quick release)

Got to wondering :headscrat why the ratchets were in the order they are. These all belong to 1/4" drive sets, except for 2 or 3. I had to keep them in order so I got the right ratchet back to the set it belonged to.

More 1/4" drives on deck...........

The march to 400 continues....................the view count cotinues to climb........now past 9000...............:bounce:

Where will the count end? :headscrat  :headscrat  :headscrat

A contest perhaps? Closest without going over, or something like that?? Maybe have a prize?? Fun to think about.

('HOUND's running ratchet total, this thread: 218 1/2" Drives, 136 3/8" Drives, 33 1/4" Drives, 387 Overall/All Sizes. Number needed to surpass overall/all sizes ratchet total of 400: 14. )

The old Crafty at stright up 12:00 in the center was purposely assembled backwards, I am sure you and 50 other guys EDIT: AND GIRLS here already knew that though. :lol_hitti

SORRY BOUT THAT SNAPMOM!

Also, I bought a 1/2" version of the second one from the left a couple of weeks back for $5.00 at a local junk-o-rama. Great ratchet, I love the style.

I find myself second-guessing sometimes if I've pictured the same ratchet twice. I blow the pic's up, and have yet to catch the same one twice.
