My garage has a corner I left open kind of like a mini carport. It's a good place to sit in the shade and it added a little architectural detail to an otherwise big box garage. It's 10' deep x 7 1/2 feet wide. I have a 6' double door at the back of it to get the lawn tractor inside the garage. I thought I would use this more for things that needed outside messy work but I've rarely used it for anything other than sitting. I was thinking about enclosing it and using it for the tractor storage. This would do several things. One, it would give me the area inside to use as my engine assembly shop. Two, I could keep the stinky grass/gas smell out of the garage and three, it wouldn't mess up my soon to be ground and epoxied floor.
Problem is I need a garage door that will match the other 3 but be scaled down to fit the opening without looking wierd. Something like a 6 x 8 or 6 x 7. My other doors are 9 x 8. I'll still leave the man doors in place for access to it from inside the garage.

I can add a new garage entrance door to the left side. It's now under the "carport" area. Right now there is a walkway to the garden shed down that side that we are working on improving. The Garage door would be accessed from that path with an awning over the door which I think would look kinda cool. Maybe an old style light and/or garage sign.
The drawing is the layout as it would be after moving everything, but you can see how things are now as well. Just move the tractor inside the double doors and disregard the side entrance door. The pictures I hope help explain this thing as well.

Opinons please. And any leads on a custom scaled down door?

Why not just move the double door to the outsite (front) and put in an interior door between the garage and the small storage area.
If you could get things in and out with the current douple door it will work as well. On the left side you could also add a small window. This would be my plan. I always try to recycle before buying new. :)

If I reversed the swing of those doors to swing in, maybe. I wouldn't want them swinging out as they do now. Swinging in means loosing some space.
But it's not out of the question.

How about converting it to a 4 season room. You could still use it for hanging out in when it's nice out and still work in it when it get cold. You could open up a window or two to get some air if you are getting some gas fumes. Just and idea.

I just did this with a part of my carport - Menards had a smaller, uninsulated garage door - 7x8 I think. I also think they could order custom sizes, but the $$ go up. My reasoning was the same as yours - gas/grass smell out of my working garage.

I tried using double doors - much to big of a pain (especiall for my garden tractor) and you don't just lose some space with the doors swinging in, but a LOT of space when the room is 10x12 and the doors are on the 6' double doors are on the 10' end.

I will be posting some pics in the next few weeks - I know, I keep saying that, but I WILL get this finished as I just about have all of my grades done for this semester, so I will have some time to get the "fun" stuff done!
