Full disclosure, I've got some new old stock wheel bearings and U-Joints in the classifieds.

Just wondering if you have ever re-purposed wheel bearings or U-Joints for a project. I've always wondered if you could use wheel bearings to make a wood lathe.

It would be easier to use the whole front spindle from a front wheel drive one for the powered end.
(To get the rotation through a stationary support.)
And then a non driven one for the support end.

Those look pretty old.
Maybe list them on one of the old car sites?

I have been dreaming up a heavy duty engine stand, using a fwd hub in front to allow adapters to be bolted on for different engines. I figured I could possibly even use the axle shaft to run back into a gear box.

Alas to use a regular wheel bearing I'd have to have a lathe and custom make everything.

Just throwing ideas out.

Hi,
No problem using them in a wood lathe as even some metal lathes come out with standard taper bearings.
I used Nissan 720 4wd rear bearings and the bearing carrier off the end of the diff for my jib crane bottom bearing. The top one is just a standard deep grove roller bearing. I works to good as it really needs a brake.

Yeah, I am thinking that to the right collector those things are worth more in their original packaging then they are as parts in a DIY project.
