never saw one before. maybe watchmakers lathe??

LOL. I've never seen one of these before either, and I've seen a LOT of watchmaker's lathes. And it seems small even by comparison to that, though it might be reasonable for some really small parts.

Believe it or not, that's a lathe used for turning contact lenses. Precision-Cosmet was one of the early developers of hard lenses and early trails with hard gas-permeable lenses.

I'm guessing the lenses were molded, then a lathe like that used to shave down the rim edge for fitting.

Very cool, thx Doc. BTW, I used to read your forum religiously like 20 years (sheesh ...) ago. That purple Rainmaker you made was one of my favorite custom markers of all time :beer:
