We just returned from a lengthy road trip and stayed in several Holiday Inn Express hotels. The rooms were all similarly appointed and we really enjoyed them. One in particular had a bed lighting arrangement that was really impressive. Room had two Queen sized beds with a night stand in between. The attached to the wall darkwood headboard, which was perhaps 2 or 2.5 inches thick, gave the impression of being continuous, but had at least three sections; two ~60" sections above the beds and a ~36" piece above the night stand. Contained (and concealed) in the top of the headboard sections above the beds was a 4' single T8 light which shined up the wall. It gave a very nice illuminating effect.
Then, attached to the headboard, one at each corner of the beds were flexible gooseneck LED lights. They made perfect lights for reading, working the computer or lighting up most anything. The switch was in the center of the base plate.
We are [meaning the wife is] possibly planning changes to the homeowner's bedroom and will sure consider this kind of lighting as it was very functional. Found the gooseneck lights doing an Internet search. Not badly priced. Haven't looked for headboards but such a light could be fairly easily adapted if the real headboard product can't be found.
