I have a Record (Made in England) No 6 vise that I’m working to get back into action.
Here’s the issue - at some point in its life, someone used a few welding tacks in place of the retaining pin in the main screw. I carefully ground these tacks to disassemble the vise, however, the original retaining pin hole is still filled. The spring and retaining washer are also shot. Otherwise, the vise is in good shape.
So, what are my options? Could I use some sort of collar to retain the spring? Should I try to re-drill the main screw? Or should I just look to by a new main screw, spring, etc. any mods I could use to avoid the spring all together?
Also, any tips for a US based supplier to f parts?
Thanks!
