For the record, there are very helpful Paypal calculators online that allow you to find out exactly how much you need to ask for (or send to someone) for the seller to net a certain amount of money. It's usually a matter of a few bucks, unless the purchases are large. Worth it to pay the extra rather than to go the gift route.

So you mean you did NOT send a gift payment?

Then, you will be ok.

But Paypal will take care of you if you paid for the item as a normal purchase.

You have at least 45 days to make a claim. I do not know the guy personally, but would you want someone to suspect the worse from you if this was reversed? Meaning if you sold. Maybe something happened to him. Life happens sometimes when we least expect it. And for 15 bucks I highly doubt it if someone is trying to rip you off. Might try to search and get his tele # and give him a ring ring ding and see if all is well. Paypal has your back, and I assure you this forum does as well. GL with everything.

I have given him every avenue he has not responded, how much is enough?

I think the point is that since you have a 45 day window to file a claim, 9 days might be premature. Stuff does happen sometimes that is out of a seller's control.

You have to follow your gut, I suppose.

I have had USPS tracking numbers that never worked or showed the package sitting hundreds of miles away and it still showed up.

But the lack of a response to your Pm's is odd.

I would give it a few more days and another attempt at contacting him and if nothing happens then file a dispute with paypal.

Well, I personally would try and contact via tele. I ship stuff to Australia and Japan Every day including Sunday's and when I know I drop it off or my staff does, and then 10 days goes by and I myself search the track # it says sometimes that there is no info. 5 Days later I get a call saying they love the tools. USPS is a complicated business. They handle BILLIONS of letters and packages. Occasionally 1 will get misplaced, not checked in properly, or may even get lost in traffic. Unless this tool or part is the million dollar part you have been waiting on to complete your castle or your dragster, I would wait a week before taking drastic measures. But that is just my .02.

Maybe wait for a while. I once sent a package from CA to NY, it arrived at NJ and stayed there for one week, then went to Ohio. But finally it delivered. Sometimes it just takes longer time.

Wow! I have responded to everyone of your PM's.....I don't sit at the computer all day so you're not going to get a response in a matter of 5 minutes. As I've already told you, your items were shipped via USPS and I sent you the DELIVERY CONFIRMATION NUMBER. this is not a TRACKING NUMBER, usually when you try to track it it doesn't show any updates until after its been delivered. Like I told you in the PM I responded to today, if you don't see something by Monday, I'd guess we have an issue.

At least he is around to help you. I bet you will have your package within the Saturday delivery. Do you know if it was mailed priority or parcel post? There is a difference of about 6 days vs 2-3 days and even then weather/traffic could delay it.

It's time to calm down a bit. I can almost guarantee that that's a legitimate tracking number. I ship a lot of stuff and have a lot of packages shipped to me, so I have plenty of experience with this sort of thing.

Sit back, relax, and let your package come in the mail.

While this was posted on Yahoo Answers four years ago, I think it will help explain what is going on. I believe this is the reason why the USPS calls it Delivery Confirmation still and not tracking.

Can the usps delivery confirmation be used as a tracking number for the buyer?

Yes, no, maybe. Sound out the name of the service.

Delivery Confirmation.

DC was designed and works very well to "confirm" the "delivery" of an item. It is not tracking in the true sense of the word.

On items like Parcel Post and other Package Services mail, you will sometimes see interim, or Enroute, scans. You should take these as a bonus.

For DC purchased at a Retail Window, the only scans that are required are an acceptance Scan, and a Delivery Scan. For DC purchased online at a discount, the only required scan is the Delivery Scan.

That being said, DC has evolved over the years. There is new machinery being deployed in processing centers every day. This next generation of machinery will allow for DC to offer some tracking information. But that is a bit off in the future. Because not every facility has this machinery, USPS can not offer up DC as a tracking device.

For instance. If you had a package coming to me. It would drop out of tracking at a facility quite a distance from me. From that point, it is at least 1, sometimes 2 days until I receive the item. If you looked up the number, you would think something was wrong, because there was no scanning activity for a couple of days. But nothing is wrong, the package just got to smaller, regional facilities that do not have the new equipment.

SO, the short answer really is, No, Delivery Confirmation is not tracking. In reality, sometimes you will see some information depending on the route that the package travels.

I always refer to the USPS delivery conformation numbers as tracking numbers, too. But, as people have pointed out, they don't work like a UPS tracking number.

Well regardless of your guys advice he filed a claim with PayPal. No big deal, I might even refund him the full $15 then in the next few days when he gets he's free tools in he'll actually understand what everyone has been saying. Maybe this will make him understand on further purchases so someone else doesn't have to deal with all this.

I always call it a tracking number because that's a lot easier then typing delivery confirmation number but on future sells I'll probably refer to it correctly for guys like this.

I just plugged that number into the USPS website and it appears to be valid.

Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on February 29, 2012 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

I took a screen shot of the transaction on my USPS account but need to get on my actual computer and swirl out some of the info and I'll post it just to show if there's any more doubts.

Well, we tried to advise him to consider the possibilities.

9 days just isn't that long to wait. For a pacemaker maybe, but not some used tools.

Wow - I'm adding him to the do not sale list too. Red02Chevy has been a member since 2007 and I see him selling items all the time with no problems. To the OP - give it a few more days. The post office is very slow sometimes.

Just like to add that I purchased multiple things from red02 with zero issues, he even delivered an item over 6hrs (both ways) away for the cost of gas. Genuine stand up member of this board wish there were more of him. Let it also be known that I bought these things from him while I was (am) deployed and he delivered with zero issues, this guy needs to relax.

I think maybe everyone needs to consider that better communication eliminates these issues entirely. For the buyer, if there is a question, then ask the seller. For the seller, if you're selling something and have collected money, consider yourself on the hook until you've rec'd notice that the product arrived. That means check your email (or voicemail if you were kind enough to provide a phone number). The very worst thing you can do is let any email or voicemail go unanswered. All kinds of bad thoughts swirl in the buyer's head needlessly.

And for those that would write off the buyer, consider that you might not have all the facts.

I purchased a ratchet from red02chevy and paid via paypal. when we both realized we were living in the same city, he offered to meet up with me and then even refunded me the shipping costs I had originally paid. To me, red02chevy is an upstanding guy!

It is what it is. Now that the claim has been filed, his money refunded. Question is this>
Will the buyer either pay the money for the tools or send the tools back? This is a classic example of a rookie buyer. In no means is this disrespectful nor is it intended to make either party look bad. It is a simple statement from the facts that have been presented. No, we all do not have ALL THE FACTS. But, we are not naive enough to not see what has happened with what HAS BEEN PRESENTED.
I hope we can all learn from this. I personally deal with newbie buyers on a daily basis. Those both new to tools, and those who are just getting started on eBay. While some will want to throw rocks at the buyer, and some maybe at the seller, keep in mind we were all new to this process at one time or another. With that said, common sense goes along way. Some of us have it, and some of us do not have it.
I think that you, (j6684) should have shown a little bit more faith, and class for that matter, and not gotten all wound up over 15.00 worth of tools. I can tell you this from experience, you are going to have a very long wait, and I do mean a very long wait for anyone here to sell to you because of your actions. This is a public forum, and you kinda accused, (whether you agree or disagree), (red02chevy) of being dishonest, as in like maybe, (in your words), he ripped you off. I do feel that when and if, ( and if you never get the tools I personally will send you 15.00), you get the tools, maybe a public apology is in order. I and several other members have tried to explain to you how USPS works. NO, We do NOT work at USPS, however we combined, (myself over 300,000), have probably shipped over 1 million packages via USPS. Lemme state that again, 1,000,000 packages. We do not comment with hot air my friend, we speak from the heart, and with experience. And most, not ALL, are pretty respectful crowd, and are honest. I know some will laugh at that last comment, but I find it to be true from the people I have met in person, and on this forum. I guess in other words foot inserted into mouth comes to mind. I did this myself awhile back. Short story. I purchased what I thought to be snap on wrenches from CHIPMUNK, they were blue point. I left a fb in his rep section. He was not happy. I said this, Nice tools, thought they were snap on will get good use. I thought this no big deal. He thought other wise. We had a phone convo in which both were angry at the other. I let 2 weeks pass, emailed him and stated I was sorry, admitted to my mistake, and we have continued our friendship and left that behind us. So you see, it is how people perceive things that I am getting at the heart of the situation. I saw no big deal. He saw it differently. Others still saw it differently than either of us. You have to think about the other shoe on the other foot, so as you do not stuff either of them into your mouth. In other words, so you do not ruin yours or your sellers reputation over 15.00. What is that 3 big macs? I dunno I do not eat fast food, but I gotta think it close.
(red02chevy) I hope that you learn from this as well. I can relate to both sides. Yours especially because I sell to make a living. You just gotta see that this is a new person, and acted like such, and move on. About the only thing you could do better, is post your tele, and the time you are available to talk on it. I wish you well.
I also wish you well (j6684). You can take what all has said and let it sink in. Do not get mad at any giving advice. It is free, and we all are assholes because we all have an opinion. Best of luck to all.

This guy complains about 9 days......He should try waiting 4 years, 10 months, 3 weeks for a Shiloh Sharps 45-110 rifle. Nine days???? I could do that standing on my head.....
