Hi garage journalists . I finally scored the mythical six inch vise. A fairly dirty mildly rusty Reed 106 . Bought it in Fulton ny for $75. I won’t bore anyone with resto pics but will show how it looks now and maybe an after shot

Hey good for you man, that's a great find. You shouldn't feel like you are boring anyone with resto pics. That is literally what most of the 3,700 page Vise of Garage Journal thread is all about. You should post it over there too, lots of guys would love to see it.

Nice job. 5 to 6 inchers are hard to find. And only $75 for a Reed! Like Mayer says, post the resto pics.

Slack, I was first in line for that vise. But I called the guy back and told him that I wasn't going to make the drive. I already have two Reed 106s, and really can't justify buying a third. I'm glad it went to a fellow GJ member. In the ad it looked like the handle had been replaced with a piece of pipe with caps threaded on the ends. Is that the case? Or is the handle original?

Maui the handle is original. Looks like it’s been sitting in the rain. The shop next door gave it to him. Didn’t mean to swoop in and swipe it and never thought anyone would know about Fulton. Post some pics of your 106. I have a couple more Reed vises, two Parker’s and a Holland. Sold the rest off. My absolute favorite is my super clean old Parker 202. There is a slight bend in the handle and I haven’t decided wether to try and hammer it out or leave it in, he claims a 6’8” fellow might have bent it bare handed. I would have paid to see that!
