(relatively) inexpensive stud remover tool?

I was going to buy one of these Klann stud removers (http://www.klann-online.de/en/Products/WebCatalogue/ProductCard/tabid/220/eid/8829/Default.aspx) until I learned they cost close to $150. Is there a good quality version of the same thing but maybe not quite as nice and thus more in the $60 range?

That's a damn good idea. Why didn't I think of that? Honestly, I'm not being sarcastic when I say this (really I'm not), why do they even make the stud removers?

for studs with buggered threads or the threads busted off

Ohhhhhh yes.

But, it'll get about anything you can get it onto, off. I successfully got 15 of 16 exhaust manifold studs off a rusty as hell (plow/salt truck) PSD 7.3 with one. Only reason I couldn't get the last one was that it has 'turned' it down so much the first couple tries there wasn't enough diameter left for it to get a good grab.

I have the Mayhew one, love it, best one I've used and its gets into tight spots.

You could. Also try assenmacher or kd but those are both taiwan made. But reasonably priced

Here are three different types. I hate double-nutting because it takes too much time, especially when you are stripping a block. I use the socket set. It doesn't harm the studs. The elliptical thing will, and it is bulky to use. The Titan looks like a Mayhew knock-off at half the price:

I doubt that Klann makes them....guess Klann buys them in oversea and sells that goodie for 400% more.

For me, those 1/4" Turbosockets worked perfect. Maybe you get a set from 6 - 10 mm inlcuding inch sizes.
