The old model had battery tail cap connection problems which they addressed with a redesign of the handle and tail cap. Mine had the problems almost immediately but my dealer sent it off and they quickly addressed it with the update and since then has been 100% reliable. The current one is a complete redesign and appears to be trouble free. Several guys in the shop have the new ones.

Word of caution, spring for a set of lithium batteries instead of alkaline ones. More of these things get ruined by leaky alkaline batteries than anything. The batteries last a long time and are easily forgotten, ruining a $500+ tool.

I have both 3/8" and 1/2" drive, I put batteries in when I use them and take them out when done. I also NEVER use Duracell batteries they all leak.

The TechAngle is OK, I find it easier to paint mark each bolt, so when they are fully tightened they line up in the same direction. Also if you get taken off a job you can tell where you left off.

I've had the new black handle style Tech-Angle in 1/2" for several years now and it is very reliable. Calibration checked at work every 6 months.
The presets you can set for torque and angle are extremely useful at my job. Some coworkers have the old style and were surprised that the new ones could have presets.

I also must have gotten one of the first C-Techs in 3/8" several years back and I had a few problems with it. Sent it back to Snap On and it wasn't fixed so I sent it to CDI and had it taken care of. It's been great since.

The 3/8"s Tech Angle and C-Techs are bulky and heavy for a 3/8" torque wrench, but they are reliable. I couldn't imagine using one in 1/4" drive.

I wish they had quick release buttons on them. The CDI equivalents are offered with them. Might have to order the QR heads through them...

I have had no issue issues with mine, I take the batteries out of mine when I'm done each time.

I have three of them and do the same thing. I recently modified my original that I bought about ten years ago and that seemed to end my intermittent problems.

I have the old and new Control Techs, new one is just a bit faster to start up.

The have a new micro torque wrench. 1-20 ft-lb the same as the smallest C-tech 1/4" and same accuracy.

I have the 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. I am not a pro and do not use them daily, so I remove the batteries after use. They have all been flawless. They always seem to be on some kind of promo, usually 10% off. Never pay full price for one! IMO, these are one of those tools that Snap On just does better than everyone else.
