mrshaun do you know why they discontinued those type of ratchets? I have the 1/4-3/8 and use them on a regular basis. Some other oems have something similar, but not with such fine head positions and fine gear set up. Also did they make one in 1/2 or only the other two. Thanks for the ****

I have a great snap-on dealer who would drive miles out of his way to warranty or sell me a single wrench, but as far as warranties I would rather finish up my day's work and do my warranties while I wind down in the evening at home. I think the mail in warranty is the easiest way for me.

they did not sell very good at all. they would just sit on the trucks. Now that they are gone, everyone wants them. same for the flex head speeder ratchets. i have a few guys that bought them back in the day and still ask about them all the time. ebay is the only way to really find one of those now.

Good news. I just got off the phone with SO, and they are sending me out 3 ratchet kits, a screwdriver blade and an extension. I really only needed a screw on one ratchet, but he said they'd send a whole kit.

So, I'm happy with that. Can't complain a bit.

Thanks for all the responses. :)

Now that they are gone, it reminds me of the Romans. The Romans were looking to feed the Irish and came up with the idea of guarding potatoes. They posted guards, and conveniently let the Irish steal the potatoes since it must be worth some value. Of course they stole them since they must be worth something since they were guarded.

This is your best bet if you don't deal with a tool truck dealer every week. Weather it's right or wrong it's the easiest way and you will get taken care of.

my dealer is awesome for warrenty.

he will even give me stuff under warrenty that he says would not normally be covered.

which is why my account is never paid off. whenever it gets low, i buy more stuff off him.

They did make a 1/2" drive model, part # S872MP.

They sold 3 Blue Point versions , 2 different length in 1/4" drive and a 3/8" drive , all discontinued with no parts available so if you have one don't break it !

They also sold 4 Snap On branded ratchets, 3 round head and 1 pear head.

1/4" T860MP
3/8" F872MP
1/2" S872MP
See link.
http://www.snapon.com/international/9pdffiles/Ratmp.pdf

3/8" F936MP Pear head
See link.
http://www.snapon.com/international/30pdffiles/f936mp.pdf

All the Snap On ratchets are discontinued but rebuild kits are available.

Matco currently offers these type of ratchets if your looking for one.

Sadly, it only takes one or two bad experiences with a Snap-on dealer to make you realize how frail and uncoordinated the whole network seems to be.

I have been between dealers for over a month and needed to replace a worn metal hinge on my older Blue Point lift lid service cart where the rivet pin was failing on one side. It was bought used from a different local SO dealer who has moved, so I enlisted the help of a dealer that services a facility near my home.

Now I could have warrantied the hinges and broken lower plastic pull strips, but I went down to the temp. driver and asked if I could just order them and pay cash. He said no problem. It's now 4 weeks later after I ordered the parts and is now ducking my calls and saying he has to call Snap_on to see the status of the parts. This is for $11.oo in parts that "I" am paying for and I stood on the truck as he plugged in the order. Srsly?

God forbid I try and order anything that's $100.00 and up or is warranty. And I go to him. No gas expenditure for him and no truck account. Just cash.

If he doesn't want my business, fine. That's all he had to say.

Funny how people complain about how tough the business climate is and yet are unable to complete a simple business transaction when a new client shows up at their doorstep.

And while doing so I sit here with a well built busted-azz service cart needing $11.00 in parts and no one wanting to take my money. :(

My first interaction with SO was a warranty item, he had no problem with replacing it for me, also bought some more goodies while I was on the truck. I also agree when I pay the top dollar for something, I would like to think that I would get top quality customer service. Just my .05 cents (inflation)

thanks.
the discontinued tools come from e deals. your dealer will have to go to his snapon.com dealer website to order this stuff.
I just arranged to warranty 2 ratchets for a guy that i do not know, he is meeting me on fort hood tomorrow during lunch.
you never know hte intentions of the customer until he has left the store. I am fair to everyone and do not judge. That has led to some huge sales in the past. Sold a verus workstation to a guy who I thought couldnt pay for a gallon of gas. tunrs out his wife has a great job and his paycheck is play money......

For what Snap On charges on their overpriced ****, yes I DO expect that. It was one of the main reasons we canceled our accounts with Snap On at work. Dealer constantly would come up with some b/s excuse on why it couldn't be warrantied... if we were lucky enough that he could stop by one or twice every 3-4 months.

Matco guy did pretty much what you posted. Always had cool freebies to hand out, sodas, b/s session, etc.

Way I figure, I can just spend 1/16th of the cost, buy Harbor Freight and get a smile and thank you sir when I turn in a broken item for a new one. Sure some of the Snap On stuff is really nice, but if it's an Act of Congress to get it fixed when it breaks.. to hell with that!

mrshaun,

Don't you know that the people on this forum expect you to go to a guys house 40 miles out of your way on a Friday afternoon and wait 45 minutes while he finds his broken ratchet for you to fix. You are also supposed to have cold drinks for him on your truck for him while he is waiting for you to fix his ratchet.

Then stay at harbor freight. Leave the pro tools to the pros, and the pointless bitching to yourself and buddies who shop at harbor freight. No one is pointing a gun to your head to buy from the tool truck.

I think you are failing to see the point I was making.

If the Snap On dealer can't provide service that is in line with the cost of the tool, then paying top dollar for a tool is useless other than emptying your wallet quicker.

The only reason I have a fair amount of Snap On is because I bought everything under the 50% off discount.

I know this has been stated in the past, but every Snap On dealer is an independent contractor. Some are very helpful, some are so-so and yes, there are some assholes, but that's no different than any other store or endeavor in life. If your SO dealer is a jerk or not treating you right, go to another brand, another dealer or order direct. Your wallet talks louder than any post on a forum.

There are bad dealers who run Matco, Mac, and Cornwell trucks too...

My snap-on guy would buy me sodas too if I wanted, but I go on the truck to buy tools. And for freebies, I get hooked up alot from my snap-on dealer because I buy alot from him. Spend time on there to b/s as well.

Sure some of the Snap On stuff is really nice, but if it's an Act of Congress to get it fixed when it breaks.. to hell with that!

Ran into that on the Matco truck... But now there is a good Matco dealer in my area but I prefer snap-on due to how they feel and work for me.

This b/s complaint that snap-on dealers do this and that is b/s. This happens with ALL different dealers. There are good dealers and bad, no matter the brand.

That is true. I guess I just have been stuck with shitheads for Snap On dealers and decent folk for the other brands and that is why I have that opinion.

The last Snap On dealer we had couldn't go "out of his way" to help me put together an order for 3 toolboxes with tools, something in the neighborhood of $30-35k. I called the Matco rep. He was based in Ohio, but flew in to Idaho to put together a package for us.... and even came in about $5k cheaper

the secret is out.

you go to the truck to buy tools, not to get pampered as if it was some sort of day spa.
people ask where the toys and free **** are, i tell them to go find a mac truck if they want a toy truck. they usually get a good laugh at that one.
only customer complaint today was that the ac was too cold. :bounce:

Sure but it's nice to get a pen, calendar... or even a darn catalog once in a while.
For a guy that buys 1 screwdriver a year fine, but we had tool orders a few times a year, some in the 10k price range.

Yeah, I had a Mac guy once (now defunct) who had more toys on his truck than tools. Quite silly, but anymore, Mac doesn't offer much I'd care to buy anyway.

...and really, the last thing I give a **** about is buying toys off of a ******* tool truck.

If your a long time customer of a said tool truck dealer they will hook you up one or another. My snap-on guy gives me snap-on shirts, flexfit hats, snap-on jackets around x-mas time. Cuts me deals on tools. But I always buy from him.

I have hats and shirts at the moment and gave out a few this week to a few of the guys.
if i could get our stickers real cheap I would be king around these parts., but at 14.95 each that hurts. im talking about the big stickers that go across the back of your truck.
I just put a carbon fiber looking S logo on the suburban. Looks sweet almost like a ghost sticker. ok now it is time to go to sleep. good luck tomorrow gents.

Sorry but I have better things to do than spin up stories on the internet for no real reason.

The Matco rep took care of a good part of the US I guess. Matco Commercial/Industrial sales. I forget his name now, but he was ex Air Force.

Yes Snap On guy wouldn't even come by to work with us. Bill Peterson and his son out of Boise. Stole many of our tools as well. We turned things in for warranty and would say "I'll email you a receipt when I link up the computer". And never would get a slip... would turn into "You never gave me that".
(He ran out of his car so didn't carry most any common items)
We had many screwdrivers handles only cause we had turned in the shank to him, Apex bits with no bits... again, he had the broken pieces. $$ torque wrenches, wrenches, sockets, etc.
Toward the end of our dealings with him I would have him sign a hand receipt on what he was taking.
What he stole I had to go defend myself to the bosses because my name was on all the tools! (I ran the tool crib) At the time my name was on everything we had close to $3 million in tools and equipment.

I believe it depends on were you meet the Snap On dealer. When my Snap On Dealer is at the BMW or Mercedes dealer he can only deal with each mechnic for a max of 10 min each, he has to meet each mechanic at ther tool box.The Subaru dealership is much smaller so he has time to work with me. On Monday my Snap On Dealer is at the BMW dealer He is there for almost 6 hours. On Wed he is at the Mercedes dealer for about 4 hours and then he goes to the Chryser Dodge dealer for the rest of the day. When The Snap On truck comes to my job it is only 3 mechanics so we just go out to his truck. Most of the time if I call my Snap On Dealer he will tell me when the best time to meet him between stops otherwise I just wait for him to stop by my job. On one ocasion I had an emergency and he came out to meet me. I call my Cornwell dealer and he meets me at my house.

If you just walk on a Snap On truck or any tool truck he is more than likely in the middle of doing somthing for a mechanic in the shop and does not have time to commiserate with people. I've seen tool trucks asked to leave because too many mechanics were away from there job talking to the toolguy. If I need somthing in the middle of the week I call first.
