Remline boxes, pics if you got them.

I was thinking back to my first tool boxes which was a 6 drawer SK top (made by Remline) and a 6 drawer Remline roller cabinet. I used them for years and gave them to coworker who was just starting out in maintenance when I bought my Matco 900 series chest/cab. So I wondering if there is any love here for Remline.

Well, I dug up this old thread looking for info on RemLine tool boxes, and so I thought I'd post the one I picked up tonight...

Great condition, the "kid" that sold it to me said his father in law had left in the house when they moved south, and he just wanted to get rid of it as it was "taking up room".

It was listed on c-list locally, and the first thing the kid said to me was "I probably should have asked more for it because I got a ton of calls right away, but you were first in line". He actually held it for me for a day and met me after work at a commuter parking lot to make the deal - how cool is that?

The tag says "RemLine Chicago 60650 Serial No. AAL-4438"







Even has the key. Perfect working condition and great paint. I have not dusted it off yet...dimensions are about 26"W x 13"D x 20"H

Gave $75...any idea on its age? I'm guessing 1970's? Anyone have one like it?

Not branded Remline, but all the details sure look the same to me.
It won't be long before I'm kicking myself for not buying the pristine Remline top box I saw a few weeks ago for $50...

Thanks guys...I feel really fortunate to grab this thing. Here are a couple with the drawers open - the second full-width drawer from the bottom is divided into three sections lengthwise...

Flatintune - that's a great Powr-Kraft box - sure looks like a RemLine-made model to me...

This completes my "motley crew" collection of tool boxes for now...everything from run of the mill Craftsman to a vintage Snap-On piece. Now to continue filling them up...!

Mac, Matco, and Cornwell boxes of the 80's and early 90's looked alot like Remlines of the same vintage. Did Remline make boxes for them? The current Proto boxes look just like the older Mac boxes.

That isn't mine, but I've successfully used a wire wheel on a Dremel to clean and de-rust them.

SK farmer, thanks for the catalog pics. They sure look like kissing cousins of the small Mac box I have. When I was working part time at Autozone in the early 2000's we could get Remline tool boxes through special order.

Remline is now StackOn. That's all I know.

I don't know if it's Remline or StackOn. I bought it new 30 years ago from Kmart, it was the display model (they were discontinuing selling tool boxes and this was the last one they had). They sold both brands back then, but this one never had a nameplate on it. It was my first "real" tool box, before this I had only a gray Craftsman portable box with a removable tray.

Hey I just had a quick question I have a Cornwell top chest that looks very, very similar to Crewchief's however mine is a full 18 inches deep, are they the same OEM? I have also seen a matco chest that is exactly like mine aswell.

I have a couple Remline boxes. Both appear to be the same model but from different times. They both have friction slides but are much better built than any of the cheaper stuff you see today from Lowes or Sears.

Here's one that my dad gave me after getting his new box.

Here's one that I picked up at a garage sale for $30. It's seen better days but works fine.

And for the fan of name plates.

i was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the remline pro's.
that set was damaged in shop at work, company replaced them for the guy.

they got relegated to hold "shop tools" for a few years, another guy "donated" a kr537a/kra300e combo,for the same purpose, i saved the remlines from the dumpster.
"the donated" boxes were left behind when the guy got fired, i left them for 2 years, and got the ok to return the remlines.
i have the SO boxes in my garage now..

Your thoughts on that cabinet? There's a PowrKraft branded version available nearby, complete and intact, in roughly the same cosmetic condition, but I can't seem to get excited about it. The drawers all open and close but they definitely need cleaned and lubed.

Oddly, the seller keeps raising his asking price and is now looking for $180...

I might offer him $50 and see how hungry he is.

I almost scored one of these a couple weeks ago. I went to an "estate" sale which was really just a moving sale. A box identical to this was in the basement full of Craftsman and SO goodies. Turns out it wasn't for sale.

I was amazed at the quality of the box and how smooth and easily the drawers opened!
