At long last I have finally finished the restoration of my Fathers old stack. Thanks to all on this forum for the suggestions and encouragement. Special thanks to lafester for selling me the middle box to replace the original that my teenage self destroyed years ago. One last replacement item to look for, the hanging side cabinet that went missing after I left home for the service.

I think this is the only Rem-Line I own. Generic double hinged lid style hand carry box. It's pretty beat up, missing tray. But the sticker is cool. I think it's old.

Awesome job Gunfighter. What color paints did you end up using?

What brand of paint stripper did you use? Jasco?

I used Citra-strip. In the beginning I was using the gel you brush on. Then I found it in a spray can. I sprayed down the drawers and wrapped them in cling wrap to keep the stripper from drying out. Let it sit for 24 hours, unwrap, scrape some and I got all the small bits with my pressure washer. Did a great job stripping down to bare steel.

That is a great idea to wrap in cling wrap! I will do that. I will be restoring the 10 drawer top chest and putting a new lid on it!

I bought another 10 drawer top box today just to swap drawers with my painted ones.
Found out the hard way that not all bottom drawers are the same... The slides are lower on this one so now I have to swap all the drawers back.

The new frame is slightly worse then my old one but the drawers are so much nicer I will just have to deal with it. I'll post a pic or too later on.

Still looking for a long slide for the bottom box.

Oh, here is another I am looking at but the price is a bit higher then I would like.
Has anyone seen one with the badge up top like that?
Its in good shape so I may try again and see if we can make a deal.

I have actually seen quite a few with the badge in that location. I think they are later ones just before they went away from the metal plate and switched to the plastic RemLine script logo.

I cant take credit for the cling wrap, that was my wife's suggestion and I am very glad I listened to her. Keep us posted with the progress on your 10 drawer.

I will be buying some cling wrap tomorrow [emoji23]

The 10 drawer will be getting a restoration along with a new lid so some welding involved. I am in the process of degreasing both the 10 drawer and the 8 drawer roller. It was pretty greasy but that is good because not much rust . I will remove the surface rust and overspray and polish and wax. The inside of this cabinet is pretty clean for 60 years old

Looks like I'm going to get that box tomorrow. Hopefully the newer frame still supports 12 drawers.

Regardless, I'll end up with a nicer box then I have now and should end up even after selling what's left over.

Pics after it's all together.

Whoops... Didn't notice the handles are different and the lid is square and ugly. I'll be passing on that model. Glad I noticed before driving down there.

What do you mean by square and ugly? If it is cheap you may just want to pick it up for parts ?

Sorry, here is a pic showing the square top. I did not save any of the other close up pics unfortunately and it is now sold. My price was $90 with the bottom roller but he says he sold it for $115, and it was 45 min away. Oh, and the handles looked to be much cheaper / lightweight. Wish I had a pic of them.

I was not convinced any of the drawers would fit an older frame, or if they were made of lighter gauge steel. I also just picked up another 10 drawer for $48 so I currently have plenty of parts.

That square top and newer handles look like garbage [emoji15] I would have passed on it as well!

This one popped up today... I love it but for $400 I think I'll wait for a remline version. I know I could get $80 or so back for the upper 10 drawer...

That is so much nicer than the ones with bulk storage on the bottom.

10 drawers at the bottom is a dream! Try to see if you can get a good deal just for the bottom part!

Oh Damn Dude

I am so sorry, the jerks probably just took it to pawn for drug money. Did you do a police report?

Sorry to hear it, WagonHo! File the police report (chances are low, but if they get cought somewhere else, you might get lucky)
Check Craigslist in the area and nearby towns. Also consider calling pawn stores.
I hope it finds it's way back to you...

Haven’t filed a report but will go by Albuquerque Pawn tomorrow, at least 1/2 the customers are our boys in blue to see what they say. I finally got a line on a roller base to match and this s#$t happens. Aargh!

They are home, safe and sound. Not sure I like the locking method on this one, it may have to be disabled if possible.

Mine is the same the top drawer cannot be fully closed or it locks all the drawers. I wish I would have addressed it prior to filling the box because now its just a mild nuisance and the drawer is always open an inch or two.

Does your bottom drawer also stick out unless locked in place?
I haven't looked into it yet but I push it in and it pops back out. I bet something fell back in there that I need to remove.

I was hoping I could just swap drawers to keep it from locking, but of course they lowered the rail location to accommodate the tabs. I don't want to remove the tabs so I'll see if I can disable the lock another way.

Oh, and this is even taller then the 7 drawer! I was already about at my limit and now I have to see what I need to do to make this fit. If I swap over the saucer casters I can save an inch at least.
