Hello
I have a 220 V 30 Amp compressor.
Does anyone know if a switch or a way to make it work with smart things or alexa?
I want to be able to turn it on from outside or in my basement when the compressor is in my garage.

Thanks
Brian

Sounds like youre on your way to creating an "app". Lots here will poo-poo a smart phone app that turns on your compressor, that is until everyone gets one.
Youre going to have to combine a 30 amp rated switch and a way to switch it with lower amperage, like a solenoid. Pretty darn good idea now that I think about it.
I'd love to turn the pump on with my phone while on the way home from town.

Fairly easy to do.

The only thing slightly expensive is a contractor or relay big enough to handle the current. I recommend looking through adafruits tutorials.

There are at least four garages here with that feature. Google advanced search. If i locate, I will edit this post.

I like the motorized ball valve approach to shut off the air at the tank instead of shutting off the power, much easier. And when you do want the compressor on, you don't have to wait for it to come up to pressure

A valve like this will automatically close when it is not powered up. They come in different flavors - 110v or 9-24v DC. I bought a DC one because my compressor was about 10' away from a 110v outlet and it was easier to run a low voltage wire. Power is supplied by an old 'wall wart' type transformer I had laying around

If you have decent wifi coverage, a smart plug like this will works great with the Amazon Echo Devices. You initially set them up with your phone and their app and then you go into the Echo > Smart Home and have it discover the devices

I've been considering one of these for my well. Water sensor with Smartthings to kill power to the pump. It also monitors consumption. They are often used for water heaters or pool pumps. https://shop.smartenit.com/product/zbmlc30/

They aren't cheap but I found some used ones on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Smartenit-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

With Smartthings and a compressor for shop use it could also be set to come on when you arrive. I think you just want a remote switch.
