Removing banjo fitting

I got two ezgo golf cart engines that uses this design. I plan on removing the line and banjo fitting going to bottom block and use what they upgraded to later on except they didn't have this hole in the block. It goes directly in crankcase. The hose gets old and cracks plus the banjo will get loose and they leak. I was told I could remove this and put a 8mm x 1.25 x 12 mm setscrew in its place.

Not sure if they need to be stainless or will the one I showed work. I don't think oil would come through the threads.

I plan on using only number 25 and 26 in this picture and just use the two gaskets and two shorter bolts. Like I mentioned ezgo done away with this design because of leaks. They tried to eliminate oil getting into breather but it didn't work very well. Caused more problems as they aged as it helped.
It is an aluminum engine block also.

I would confirm that 8x1.25 thread pitch. Most metric banjo bolts are of the finer thread variety.
Unless the intent was to tap it to fit....

Cap screws was what I was thinking with washer but a major ezgo engine re-builder said they use the set screws . They have aluminum washers on them now with the banjo. I just don't want to see leaks on these as I also rebuild some for other people that have this design.

It is 8mm x 1.25 . I checked with the engine people plus I also checked with thread gauge. The engine people told they do this so people don't get their engine back and then the engine leaks because of a bad hose or leaking around the banjo then blame them.

I know they were busy do I didn't ask a lot of questions other than the one about what to replace it with after I removed the banjo fitting. I once worked at a golf course that used these robbin engines and we had these leak often. These hoses are no longer available or braided part on the outside of hose.

Yes, that is what I was thinking. Being this is not pipe threads whats to keep it from screwing all the way in ? maybe it would be ok. I just need to order these black oxide coated steel setscrews and wanted to make sure they would be ok. I tend to overthink a lot lol Thanks

At 8x1.25 I would just use a hex head bolt and a copper washer. Clean it all up and loctite it.

I think the reason they used the setscrew is someone later on would think its an oil drain. I am guessing anyway. Once its in there it don't ever need to come out again but I like your idea better than what I was told being its not pipe threads. Thanks for the help.

If the set screw bottoms out or reaches the end of the threads ok then but otherwise if the threads go right through the case it can't be torqued at all and can vibrate in or out. Definitely use thread locker on that puppy or cap screw and thread locker so it can be lightly torqued in place. Make sure all traces of oil are cleaned from the case threads so the thread locker adheres to the threads properly.
