Removing potato chip grease?

Had some friends over this summer, partying it up in the garage, playing flippy cup, acting like we're still young... and some potato chips got left on the garage floor. When cleaning up, I noticed the chip grease had transferred it self to the concrete. This made adult me sad.

My self diagnosed OCD can't leave those grease spots alone. My garage floor is only a year old and it still looks pretty new... so I'd like to keep it that way until I eventually finish it.

What the easiest way (product to use) to get the spots out?

I've found that lacquer thinner will dry up most oil spots. There's a few other chemicals that work as well. Most of them are pretty flammable. Use caution.

You can use solvents like paint thinners to flood the spots and mop up with a rag while they are wet (hang the rag out to dry before disposing). After that wet with water, sprinkle laundry detergent powder on the area and mix with a broom, keep wet, rinse off or mop after 10 minutes.

Get to it quickly, it is just in the surface and will come out.

If it does not work 100%, repeat.

Get a bag of Oil Dry. You'll eventually need it for something tougher than chips! Works like cat litter, but way better.

Brakleen cleans everything. I use Purple Power for the floor though. Not sure if that's among its intended uses, but it does a good job and doesn't smell horrific. Big fan of oil dry and pig mat.

Pull your car in over the spot, open the crankcase drain, rub it into the chip stain, then wipe it clean and it will look like an adult's garage again.

Same at my place. At least I can't drag that into the house on my shoes or clothes.
Maybe clean it up with some of the above suggestions and epoxy the floor to prevent future snack food catastrophies. :)

Haha! I knew I would get razzed for this. You guys can keep your big manly oil stains... I'll stick to my clean, chip greasy floor. And yes it was Lays those bastards!!!

Thanks for the tips. I'll start with the cat litter, then go to burn the garage down after. :)

Haha I never got a chance to try any of the suggestions, as the weather turned cold and snowy shortly after posting. The floor is caked in snow, ice, dirt, mud now so out of sight, out of mind until spring. :)

I think we need to have a discussion about if grinding or etching works better for potato chip grease :dunno: Then the usual crew can chime in about tiles being a better option, Jorgen can sell you Racedeck and I can sell you some Pour N Restore and some Roll Out PVC Garage Flooring :willy_nil

Only kidding guys. Seriously though +1 for tide

My process to remove stains is scrub the area with solvent and while the floor is still wet cover with floor dry. The solvent holds grease/oil in suspension and the floor dry absorbs the whole mess.

I feel your pain, my first stain was devistating. I had the return line off the hyd. drive motor on my Dixie Chopper. Came in the next morning and all the oil had trickled out of it. A HUGE oil puddle on the floor. Since then my F350 has done a good job of taking my focus off of it since it marks its territory everywhere it sits. I guess the point is make more the first one wont seem so bad. Or try everything from brake clean to fire, one has got to work.
