How many of you guys ever rent tools for certain tasks? What types of tools do you rent?

I very rarely rent a tool, but just this last week I needed to rent a pole chainsaw to take down an uncooperative tree. Not something I can justify owning...

about the only thing i have ever rented was a sewer snake.

Backhoes, Bobcats, big *** compressors (sprinkler line blow out sized ones), when I pull the welder out of my truck I might rent a skyhandler.

Little stuff: we rented a framing nailer once, a concrete saw a couple of times, and a big Rotohammer. I think we have also rented an aerator and a roto-tiller at some point.

I own a small Bobcat(310). I don't rent anything. In the last 2 days, I have borrowed a Stihl concrete saw, a dumptruck, and a 420E Cat backhoe from my employer, though. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

I have some folks rent pressure washers, both hot and cold from time to time, but that is part of my business. One piece that goes out quite often is a hot water heater the you couple past your cold water washer to make it a hot machine. Hot water goes after grease and also gum on sidewalks much better than cold.

I have rented scaffolding in the past.

I rented a floor grinder not long ago to grind the floor of my garage so I could epoxy it. I have also rented a post hole digger (the kind that runs on gas, looks like a big ice auger) I'll tell ya it's a machine that kicked my a** LOL

i have not, but i have the local rental joint stuck in my memory. i would have no problem going there. on expensive items their prices are fair, but some stuff is just cheaper to buy....

I like to have my own stuff, even if it mostly sits. So if renting it more than once pays for the tool, or i could have good use for it i'll buy it.

if it is bulky i will rent it. I bought an engine hoist over 3 years ago, moved it 3 times and used it once. I should have rented that one....

Had to rent a hammer drill the other day. Mine went out while putting a new electical service in my MIL's house. Bought a new one the next day.
Tile saw, rotary post hole digger.

I rent about once a year.

Last year it was a tiller, then her Dad gave us his old one (which we left out in the rain and now I am fixing)

I needed a miter saw, got one, need a chainsaw next and may rent (i only have one other mature tree) and I will need a trencher (to dig for a small foundation to prevent bamboo from continuing to grow)

Lawn stuff mainly. I organize a lawn aerator rental with my neighbors every year, sometimes 2x a year, so we all use it on the same day and split the cost. I've rented a dethatcher before, as well as a sod cutter. I also just rented a car dolly to get my Monte over to this new house over the summer.

I prefer to go to the local rental place first, but if they don't have the item, I'll goto Home Depot tool rental.

it depends on what im doing, ive rented a rototiler, and post hole digger this year. in the past i rented tools like a cut off saw, jack hammer, drywall hoist and a chipper. there are lots of tools i could use bnut really only need once. i do own alot of what i've rented in the oast though, i now own scaffolding, a mini tiller, and a cut off saw. im also looking for either a bobcat 310 size skidder or a dingo type machine

Rented an engine hoist twice before I bought one - ironically it came from a rental place whose owner was sick of chasing down deadbeats who didn't bring it back.

i work for an equipment rental company, i can definatly say that renting certain tools and equipment makes alot of sense. one great thing about working there is i get to borrow anything i want whenever i want!

Aside from trucks, I've rented engine hoists several times, sewer rodders a few times and a jack hammer.

machinery skates. I keep looking for some on craigslist, but so far haven't seen them cheap enough.

I rented a tractor with a front end loader and a backhoe for a weekend to pull stumps and spread a few truckloads of dirt.

It was so much fun that I joked that the rental place should have a big dirt pit outback to let people pay by the hour to just play on these things.

i work for a construction eq dealer, havent had to rent anything, but i do borrow a trailer a few times a year to haul my s-10 blazer.
i should buy a carhauler, but i'm a cheap SOB
