We attached our new garage with a breezeway and to fit the breezeway we had to remove a window on the house.

House was built in 1957 and I have never seen this type of drywall before. It appears to be 3/8 drywall with 1/2 plaster for a total of 7/8. Has anyone ever repaired this before?

Photo attached.

Button board most likely. In place of lath, gives the plaster something to hold onto. Drywall, tape and mud.

A couple of layers of 3/8 drywall with setting type compound between, tape and same compound over. Be sure to keep it a little low, then finish with more compound.

Depending on your budget and amount of time and labor you wish to be involved with, perhaps you can cut strips of cheap 1/4" hardboard used as furring over the wall studs and cover that with 5/8" sheet rock to achieve the total thickness desired.
