Replace bit portion of bit socket?

Hey guys,

Are the bit portions of bit-sockets (like, a 1/4" drive bit attached to a socket) just press fit? I have a broken T27 that is part of a set that is sentimental to me, and replacements are NLA. The bit itself seems to be a typical 1" long 1/4" drive Torx bit. Can I just press it out and press a new one in? Or are they epoxied/soldered/otherwise attached?

Thanks,
Chip

I broke a Gearwrench torx bit. Pounded it out with a punch then pressed a new torx bit in with a vise. Quick and easy.

Its either press fit or held in place with a set screw.

You can buy replacement bits from SK assuming its USA and you want to keep it that way.

Thanks! Knocked it out with a punch and tapped a new one in. Good as new!

I intentionally buy smaller bit sockets that are 1/4" hex for just that reason. Bits are cheap and always faster then going anywhere for warranty.
