Replace furnace fan switch with timer

Given the right budget anything is possible.
You did not give us much information to go on.
What does the furnace heat? Using what fuel?
What is the make and model of the furnace?
Can you post a wiring diagram for the furnace?
What do you want the timer to do? Twist a knob /push a button and the fan runs for x number of minute/hours? Or do you want the fan to run schedule like 8AM to 5PM Monday-Fridays.
Do you have a particular timer you want to use?

That switch only has one function. It turns the furnace fan ON only by itself. It does not affect the furnace itself, which will continue to operate normally all on its own regardless of the position of that switch.
However, when the furnace is not running, I can manually select that switch to ON and it turns just the fan on individually to recirculate ambient air throughout the house. See how its marked "Circ Fan"? It uses the furnace fan as a re circulation fan as well as a method to distribute hot air to the ducts.
My furnace does not run very often. I'm wanting to utilize that circulation fan to periodically come on......some kind of timer to turn it on and off a few times per day. I could do it manually, but it's in an inconvenient area of the home and I'd like to automate it.

With the right kind of timer switch, I don't see a problem. That's what many thermostats do by design. I leave our blowers on low speed most of the time for circulation.

If furnace has ac just use a spring timer switch across r and g at thermostat or wire the timer across the fan control then g there shouldn't be any feed back into any circuits.
Many programmable thermostats have a function built in that will do exactly what you want, you will need enough conductors in the thermostat wire to add one, it may need 3 or it may be 4.
