Replacement keys for snap on box?

I just purchased an older (mid 90's flip top front see 1st pic) snap on tool box and the original owner has lost the keys to it. The box is not locked, and the locks are still in place with the key code still on the front of the cylinder. Unfortunately, both the top and bottom cabinet take are separate key.

Is it possible to purchase replacement key(s) from snap on? Or will it be a locksmith only job?

If unable to purchase a replacement key, could I install a newer style lock like this one I found on ebay? (see pic)

The box looks like this one, this is not my box. It's just a picture I found online of the same style box.

PS: Anyone know the model/part number of this replacement key lock?

Remove the lock and take it to a lock smith. If you know the brand and number of the lock you might get one form Snap-on at 20 times what the lock smith will charge you. If it has the numbers on the lock he might be able to make you a key without re-keying it.

They are an odd ball key most locksmiths won't have them. Some of the vary old models I think I've had some luck with.

If it's a tubular key a locksmith might have one.

Call Snap On with the codes on the keys if you don't have a dealer near you.

Or, you can use those new locks on the older boxes. I just replaced a lock on a 1984 KR 533 with one of the newer locks and it works perfectly. May be worth it to get two new locks keyed the same way.

Hope your new box looks as good as the one in the pic. :)

Hi,

I just received 2 keys for my older Snap On top box from a seller on ebay. They cut them to the number on the lock.
