When I built my 30x50 workshop (12ft ceilings) I wired the front half with six of the 8ft T5HO 4-lamp fixtures Home Depot used to sell for $69. It's adequate lighting for the front half of the shop, back half is mostly storage so I figured I could add lights there later.
Later has come, and now pretty much everything is LED, I can't even find the T5HO lamps I bought originally. I've been looking at something like the LED high bay lights from Home Depot but not sure about surface-mounting something like this straight against a finished drywall ceiling. Is it a fire hazard to mount these directly to the ceiling, not suspended from a chain?
My current T5HO fixtures are rated at 20,000 lumens and I certainly don't want less light than I have now, I'd prefer not to do a bunch of rewiring so I'm trying to stick with something close to 20k lumens so I can keep the same number of fixtures.
