Replacing toolbox lock

So I purchased a second HF end cabinet to hang off my toolbox. They have different keys. I asked HF if they sell new locks, but they do not. Does anyone know if these are a standard type of lock? If so, where are these available? I see some on amazon and other places, but I'm not sure if they will work.

They lied to you. They do sell keyed alike locks in sets of 5. You need to call the main company to order them though.

HF uses different locks for the different boxes and add-ons that they sell. It would be much easier if they used a standard lock, but they don't.

They do however offer a 5 lock set for the 44" box system that is only available through customer service. Not in stores. To get it, you need to call them and give them the part number. Otherwise, their CS reps don't have a clue about it. Two years ago it was about $40 shipped. The part number is HF item #12892.

The locks worked fine on my 2 HF 7-drawer side cabinets as a direct swap. But my 26" stack, and 5-drawer cart needed to be modified to get them to work. You may have to jury-rig it to work on the side locker, I'm not sure because I don't have one.

i've got on of the five lock kits i'm about to return because it wont work with the side lockers

I called HF and they could only offer the 5 pack. Since they apparently do not fit on the side lockers, I bought a couple cam locks from McMaster (item 1770A523, $6.32 each). They worked well, but I had to slightly enlarge the mounting hole of the locking bars inside the locker. So now matching keys, woo hoo.

Looking back, I should of called Waterloo and see if they could sell the locks that match my toolbox. That way everything would match. Oh well

I just ordered a new lock from Waterloo for my Waterloo box. $38 shipped to me seemed kinda steep but I bought it anyway.

I just replaced the lock on a 40 yr old Proto box. Couldn't ID the box so I went to the lock smith and bought a replacement lock with 2 keys for $13 and change. He knew the proper part immediately.

Had to transplant the cam (latch arm), but was otherwise "plug and play".
