Figured I would make a thread about my roll up door install. My workshop was built by the original owner for a woodworking shop and I guess he decided there was no need for a garage door. He had installed 2 French doors.
I need to be able to have a bay to work on vehicles and I am installing a 2 post lift soon. I went with the roll up door so that there would not be any of the tracks, etc.. getting in the way of the lift.

I built a temporary wall to support the roof while cutting and framing the new door opening. I removed the French door, cut out the brick, removed the framing for the French door and then had a big opening. I also had to cut the stem wall flush with the garage floor for the wider opening. We tidied up the brick on the edges and set the lintel. We then used 2 LVLs and built and installed the header and framing. That is a very short summary of a pretty involved job, for me at least.

I decided to go ahead and install the plywood wall covering around and above the opening as well as insulate. I will wait to do the rest until the lumber prices get a bit more reasonable.

The door installation was actually very simple. The door clips into the tracks and then you just stand it up and bolt it in.

I then trimmed the opening with the seals I bought with the door and hid them as best as I could under the PVC trim board.

Door: Janus M1000, 9ft 1in x 7ft 4in
Opener: Dominator Easy Roller

I accidentally dropped the opener during install. The company, ATA America, was very helpful and sent me a new housing piece at no charge and I was able to purchase a new board and got if fixed.

I am fortunate enough to have a 2.5 car garage in addition to my workshop. I store my motorcycles in the garage. I have plenty of room for a car bay, motorcycle lift area, and a chill out spot with recliner, TV and, beer fridge.
Here is a picture of my workshop:

I like the framing design to keep all the wood up and on top of the stem wall.

What kind of saw did you use to cut out the other stem wall? It looks like a special design to flush-cut or am I just seeing it wrong?

Great job and nice shop, I need a big chair in mine lol.

Was concerned about the headroom with insulation but had sufficient clearance once the door was up. So today I “insulated” the door. Better than nothing for sure.
