Tom & Chris,

Congratulations on your 39th!!! If I put that in perspective, you started restoring the shop almost 9 years ago and 9+2 years hence you'll be celebrating a half century together. Now that you're both "retired" you won't believe how fast that's going to come.

Extremely well done Mike!!!:thumbup: Roland, the fellow who owns that trailer, has frequently commented that "if anything stops moving around your shop for very long, for sure it'll get powder coated, that's why I don't stand still!"

Thank you all for the good wishes. Chris and I wanted to share a very special day for us with as many of our friends here as we could. Hope we'll see many of you on our 10th year shop anniversary extravaganza next year. Details to follow so stay tuned. :D

She looks like she is going to have a time to remember all her life
(I figured that was what would be in the hauler but with all the happenings in the center of the universe you just never know)

Thomas & Chris,

39 years of marital bliss; just over 9 years of restoring the shop; building a new homestead; almost 3 million views, 3,000 posts, & 400 pages of test material! You two know how to live in the Center of The Universe! Congratulations!

Wow!!! Been awhile since I perused the Center of the Universe.

Chris, Thomas, happy anniversary. I do like the two of you's style.

Seems I've returned just in time to see the end of the tool shed saga.

Hey Thomas and Chris, Here is to your 37 year celebration and wishing all the best.

Multi years of marriage to the same bride and successful retirement from a great career, It is too hard to explain to those who aren't there, and it is greater than a person can ever imagine. You are a lucky man!!

Congrats Thomas and Chris on your anniversary celebration!

It is truly amazing what you can accomplish standing side by side with the right partner.

I'm sure its already been said but you two are an inspiration, it gives me courage to tackle some of my daunting projects.

Hey where's my invite? I'm a Payne too!

Phil, you mean you didn't get your invite? Did the Royal Mail fail you as well? I'd file a protest with them pronto!

If you're from the UK, these cars...

...a Lola T70 on the left and a Lotus 19 on the right should look familiar to you.

Some how we lost a couple of years here. For the sake of accuracy on the test, Chris and I celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary. Reference post #7964. The secrete to our success together? That's easy...

She has her Lincoln and...

...I have mine. :D

As a couple who for the first time in over 20 years is (the shame the inhumanity) Lincoln-less we are missing it. Our town car got hailed out last year and we bought a Ford Diesel pickup instead, its those little things in the Lincoln you miss who ever thought automatic headlights and lo beam changers would be missed

All right, very cool! A work in progress but still, it's very nice to see it out and about. Looks to be an early '50's I'd say. Thanks gasgas17 for thinking of Gus!

As someone who stumbled on this thread and forum by googling "osage orange hedge" I feel that I have suddenly become aware of an entire world I never knew existed. Between "Restored 1930s Auto Shop", "1950s Craftsman Garage" and "12 Gauge Garage" I have passed many happy hours here and I wanted to express my sincere thanks to all GJ posters, especially Tom. THANKS!

How true.

Welcome.

I wonder how many "single owner" threads out there exceed 3 milion views and continue to entertain so immensely.

Thank you indeed.

OK, so I'm sitting in the Lola underneath the main grandstands at the Indianapolis 500 race track, helping out while it was going through tech inspection for this week's Indy Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational. The noise of various vintage race cars on the track howling in the background with our crew chief, Roland Johnson standing beside me and I'm thinking to myself "I am positively living a dream here" when deceased, F1 ace Jimmy Clark's former girl friend, Sally Stokes strolls over and chats up Roland whom she has know for many years. I get introduced to her and Sally and I have a most pleasant conversation for 10 minutes or so. Among other things she told me this is her first time back to Indy since Jimmy won here in 1965 and she was amazed at the changes.

What does this have to do with the old Restored 1930's Auto Shop.................? Absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!!! It was just a very surreal moment for me that I wanted to share. Pictures to follow.

Hi Bren and thank you for your interest in my little corner of the internet.

How are we possibly going to link osage orange trees with Sally Stokes for the test? :dunno:

I really do appreciate you taking a moment to let me know you've enjoyed yourself here. I would say it has been as much fun for me writing it as it was for you reading it. A real win-win situation. Hang around a bit longer and you'll see the tool shed finally cleared out. I am making good progress out there....but no more gold bars............yet!! :D

Now is a good time to remind all of the old saying, "A picture is worth a 1000 words"

Thomas is very good at deception. He just places his camera focus on what or whoever it is in his discussion. But the surprise is in the photo's background. :shocking: Question??? Is this part of the dreaded TEST :dunno:

You have to look carefully into his photos to see all the potential clues to what is going on. All of those items seemingly lost in the first photo reveal of the shop, the infamous Tool Shed :willy_nil, and the gatherings of friends from around the center of the universe.

This thread is better than a fiction mystery novel. Full of surprises from the
Tool Shed that send some into a frenzies :willy_nil, to a list of fellow GJ readers that completes the cast of characters. :eyecrazy: Man do I love a good mystery. Keep it coming Thomas, we all love it!!!

Odd, don't recall seeing that roll-top desk before....

Oh oh Rick, I know someone who's being playing hooky from this thread. I'm not exactly sure but I posted about it 1 -1 1/2 years ago. I'll look when I get home unless someone else beats me to it.

I'm still doing long days at Indy with the vintage racing event this week (The Lola won pole today with fastest qualifying time in Group 5, and the Titan was second in Formula Ford, Group 2, by just .035 sec.). So far it's been a very satisfying week for us and nothing has broken! I'll post pictures once I'm back at the shop.

You guys are the best! As for your question, "Is this part of the dreaded TEST" the answer is, YES! :D

Got to get some sleep now, pre-grid at 08:00 tomorrow morning, Group 5, the Lola and the Lotus.

Hi Thomas, I have been following this thread since it began and would like your advice. I have agreed to buy an old in-ground lift, it appears to be a Rotary and want to learn all you can tell me about getting it out of the ground. This one is pneumatic with a control cabinet and an air tank.
It looks like you dug a very large hole to get yours out. Can I get by with less digging?
Any other suggestions on getting it out?

Hello bgarrett and thank you for following all our adventures from the beginning. If you need Roatry Lift information/advice I'd be only to happy to help out. I'm a bit time constrained at the moment. If you are not pressed for time getting the lift removed send me a PM with contact information and I'll share what knowledge (if any :dunno:) I have. Another thought is to contact Rotary Lift directly http://www.rotarylift.com/ and see what they might have to offer in the way of removing that lift.

Very briefly, you need to get the cylinder out of the ground so you have to dig to the bottom of it.

I was handy-capped by having the lift inside the building so I couldn't get a backhoe...

... in very far to dig the cylinder out.

My lift cylinder was about 8' long as I recall.

After this coming weekend, June 13-15 I will have much more time to help you.

In the meantime, Good Luck!
