I'm waiting for "And now, something completely different".

Pete

And now for something completely different Pete, in this mornings paper...

...was a picture of my Corvette convertible, from the day before, at this years first car show of the season. Last year I had no time for such things.

Ditto.
I'm sure many of us feel kind of a void in our daily lives now that the house project is pretty much wrapped up...:dunno:

It's like we were all in a great class together and all of a sudden our teacher is out on Summer vacation.

A well deserved one though!:thumbup::beer:

All is well in the Center of the Universe. I'm busy getting our apartments rented and prepped for mid-August turnover, as well as working on my committees (village zoning, library, high school alumni association, car club president, etc.). Tom's just trying to get all those little details finished with the house (tweeking the landscaping for better drainage; installing door handles - 1.5 hrs each - only 2 left; getting the mantle ready for installation; planning his closet built-ins; finishing design on his office bookshelves/cabinets; getting ready to install doors on garage storage closets; planing the outside decks, etc. And cleaning the old shop in preparation for our annual car club picnic; watching the grass grow - unquantifiable) We also have been watching movies almost nightly before ending the day. Things are getting there (especially the grass!).

More updates to follow, so enjoy the pre-summer break.

Where's Thomas??????????

I know, I know, I'm waaaaaaay behind posting here. You have absolutely no idea how busy I've been.....no idea! :willy_nil

Some of it is because of completion of on-going house construction details...

...like the stairs to the basement...

...or putting the finishing touches on the mantel, installing sink base cabinets and trim, installing door hardware...

....working on the landscaping.

Some of the delay is racing related, upcoming crewing at Indy for 2 weeks, upcoming professional house photo shoots...

...or design and beginning construction of my upstairs office cabinets and book shelves (black walnut, they're going to be beautiful!) and that's just some of it.

Everyone here is so amazingly patient with me and I do appreciate it, don't think I don't. Stand by, I've got a lot more to share!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back Thomas. Fortunately there has been plenty going on to keep us busy, but it's not the same.

A little birdy mentioned some of the happenings and trips you've been on and they sounded like a lot of fun. Yard and house are coming along wonderfully and I look forward to seeing you again next Tuesday, hopefully there won't be any rain.

Thomas, while I am disappointed by no recent pictures, I was sure it wasn't for a lack of things going on :) When you have time to catch us up, I am sure everyone will be ready for an update. The short picture update you gave shows some great progress as it is. Keep it classy!

Just an update.

I've had no reply to my pm to the Kiwi recipient of the BS1.0......

So I'm thinking the book will be making it's way back to you after Rod finishes with it.

I'm in agreement with you Lyndon. I've not heard from Mr. Hamilton either so I'll PM my mailing address to you Lyndon and I'll take it from there.

Thank you so much for shepherding BS1.0 through it's travels in Australia. I know it was a long wait for you fellows there, but from what I hear, it was worth it. :)

Many thanks for the offer HOTFR8. After Australia, williamhamilton - Wairarapa, New Zealand was suppose to be next but Lyndon and I have both sent him a PM with no response nor has he posted anything here for a year or more.

I'm a little reluctant to make a big effort to find him if he's lost interest in reading it. I think we'll have more success not losing it with those who stay on top of where BS1.0 is and where they are on the list. You're welcome to try to and find his email and if he's still interested I'd hate to skip over him, especially since he graciously gave up his spot on the list to let everyone in Australia read it before it was sent to him. See what you can do. Thank you.

Well, being a slow reader I do not read much in the way of books. BUT, I read the BS twice because I liked it sooo much. I really appreciate the time everyone has taken to give us all a chance to read it.

Looks like I will passing by the famous Philo in an hour or so.

Careful of the vortex, you'll get sucked in and when you get spit out you'll never NOT clock a switchplate screw 'properly' again!

Me too, woo hoo, looking forward to getting added to the list of happy readers. Tom, thank you for doing all of the work to keep this cool story going.

tkbowman and JB, since it looks like BS1.0 will be headed our way in the not too distant future, I'll get the USA/Canada3.0 reader list updated and posted here shortly. Right now Chris and I are doing a bit of crewing off and on at Indy for the next couple of weeks so stand by my friends. (no worries JB, we'll be there Tuesday for you)

Beltsville Shell is a story any auto enthusiast would enjoy no matter where they live, don't you think Terrick? I think among all the many folks who have read it here, 100% agree, it's a great book. I've re-read it several times myself.

Thomas,

I've been lurking around since my last overseas tour in 2012. Now that I'm nearing retirement, I'd like to get placed on the BS1.0 list as well. I'll send you a PM.

I do want to thank you and Ms. Chris for all you've done to let us see Mr. Johnson's old shop become new again. It has been awesome.

If we are around the welcome mat is out. If we're gone a drive by is approved, but keep your distance.......it's that vortex thing ya' know! :D

Thomas

We're leaving Indy in a couple of hours venturing home via 74. If you guys are home I may be able to talk the wife into a detour.

For those on the next reading list for BS, I have just finished tonight and will be getting it back to Lyndon now who is shipping it back over to Thomas.

Fantastic reading.

Thomas thanks for allowing us the opportunity.

Cheers GB.

Hi 1SG, I did get your PM and you have been added to the reading list. BS1.0 should be on it's way back to the USA in a few days and once I have it, I'll start it on it's 3rd North American tour.

Thank you for your kind words, your interest in the shop and for understanding what we're trying to accomplish here. It's been a long time coming but I'm quite happy with our little corner of the world. It's most pleasant living here. :)

I'm still {Im}-patiently waiting for my turn with BS1.0, too, but will remain content with updates here and elsewhere.

Thanks rixtrix1 for your patience. The guys in Australia waited to read it for what, a couple of years I think. It'll be here soon and yes you're on the list.

Hi there yates. The irony of the whole thing is Chris and I were in Indy at the same time you were...

...crewing for our guys once more. We got home about 6 hours after you stopped by. So very sorry to have missed you! Keep us in mind for the next time.

Many thanks Grumblebum for the update. I know how long all you guys had to wait for it so I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Quite the story isn't it and reading BS1.0 is a fun shared experience with everyone here.

Cheers to you!

A Short Update.....

All right, yes I've been absent from posting here, but I always check in on this thread every day so even if I don't post, I know what's going on. ;)

With all the "stuff" that's happening here I decided to do the projects and post about them later........and unfortunately this isn't later. Here's some quickie pictures for a mini update anyway.

The fireplace mantel brackets have been installed...

...on the mantel, and the mantel...

... has been test fitted to the fireplace. More on that later.

Work has begun on the walnut lateral file cabinet and the other cabinets and bookshelves for my office.

More on that as well.

The storage space in the garage has been completed as has the installation of a deep sink in the garage.

I did drive the '66 Corvette coupe to the 2017 Corvette Home Coming event at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky a couple of weeks back. Here we're getting ready to leave on a police escorted cruise to downtown Bowling Green.

Plus all sorts of other "stuff" like a professional photo shoot of the house.

The photo shoot was done because one of the companies that supplied material for the house, commissioned a book to be done on the house. The idea, as I understand it, is that the book will be used as a way of showing what their material looks like in a home setting. They supplied all the custom made doors and much of the raw trim material.

So anyway, there is much happening out this way, I just haven't been posting it......yet. Bare with me!

Perpetually busy it seems Thomas

Thomas and Chris,
It was great to get to stop by and see you on my way through during my little trip. I know Alex enjoyed the tour of the shop and we both enjoyed getting to see the newly constructed home. I realized one mistake we made, I didn't get a photo of my cobra out front. I'll get the photos from Alex shortly and post a few up if you don't mind.

Thomas, I was at a car show at the drag strip. I did a quick lap around the driveway and glanced around as I was already up to the house but didn't go any further as I didn't want to intrude (anymore than I already had?). The wife thought I was crazy for even detouring but she doesn't seem to realize that you can't just get this type of scenery anywhere, it was Philo IL, the center of the universe! Hopefully I will make that way again sometime soon but, sadly, it may be quite awhile.

Thomas,

After all this time it is strange seeing your house with furniture in it!

Always a joy to check in on this thread.

I don't mind a bit JB so post away. Nice to see you again as well and to meet Alex. Hope the Power Tour was fun for you. It looked like a blast!

 I can just hear your wife now yates...

... "What are you doing!!!! You can't just drive up there. What if they're home, they'll call the police on us! Don't do it......Stop now before it's too late!!!!!!!!!!!"
That's when you calmly explain to her we're all friends here who just haven't met.....yet. ;)

For Chris and myself, no big deal.

At least you got to see why we love it so much out here. Besides being very tranquil, it's our special spot. :)

Well that's understandable David. There have been a whole bunch more pictures without furniture than...

...with furniture.

Thomas and Chris,

You have built such an amazing home.

The transformation since last year when we were there has been staggering.

Your finishes and material selection will ensure this house serves many generations.

I love coming in and taki a look pretty much every day.

Good to see you get time or is that make time for life as well and get to enjoy your hobbies.
