I've spent the past few months reading through all 317 (as of right now) pages of this epic tale of wonder! Thank you, Thomas and Chris, for sharing your lives on GJ! It's truly inspiring for those of us who are in an earlier stage of life, and thinking about building their ultimate shops, garages, and houses. I'm proud to say that this is my first post on GJ, and I'm looking forward to continued updates from the COTU!!!

Thanks again!
Hello Phil and let me add a warm welcome to you joining our gang here! Wonderful you stuck with it and read through all the pages. That fact and you posted in after all that self abuse says something about you, and in a good way! You're going to fit in nicely here. Pretty terrific group I must say. You've joined a rather small, exclusive group whose first posts on GJ were on this thread. Well done sir.

Truly looking forward to meeting some of you fine folks at the open house, especially after you've put up with my blathering here for the last 12 years or so. Hope you're not disappointed! :dunno:

Great picture.

Sorry I will not be able to meet you at the event of the century in June but I had committed to a family holiday in Devon before I knew the date. So no need to renew my visa after all!

Just as a reminder, we're still holding our shop open house this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 10, 11 and 12th, 2022, from 10:00am to 5:00pm. If you're in the area, please stop by. I think you'll find it interesting. Send me a PM if you need the address or other information. Chris and I are looking forward to meeting and seeing our friends from this thread.

Thank you everyone.

Congratulations on your anniversary. My wife and I just celebrated out 31st yesterday.

I really wanted to make it to your open house but that darn working for a living thing once again interfered with what I'd really like to be doing.

Sometimes it ***** to be a responsible adult.

Oh, my! Thank you to everyone for the greetings on our 47th anniversary! We've made it this far, so the only choice is to keep going. Right?! Life is extremely busy for us these days. I guess we don't know any other way to do it!

I sure hope some of you who've been following along all these years can actually make it to the Center of the Universe this weekend. We look forward to sharing what Tom has created here (while I'm busy with my set of activities). I look forward to a relaxing weekend visiting with new and old friends.

Maybe we'll even get a visit from Sweet Old Bill from northern CA! Bloomington Gold is going on as I type this, so maybe some Corvette people will visit us after they're done up at Normal, IL (yep, especially 9C1). It's only a short 60miles away.

For those of you in the immediate vicinity, I hope you stop by over this weekend (Amitygravel, rlwhitetr3b, DSM_PWR and anyone else in the area).

Those that go to Stanton for PSMCDR events, please make a short trip here (merr6267, Bob Telep)(with your kids, if possible). The weather is supposed to be perfect for a day trip. IN, SE WI, and northern IL need to make their way here to see what's going on. Just send a PM to BB767 to get directions.

Pray for No Rain at the Indianapolis 500 road racing track June 17-19. We'll be there working on the pit crew for our San Diego road racing friends. If you come to the open house this weekend, you'll be able to see the actual cars before they leave for the track on Monday. If I remember correctly, I think Crizzle likes to bring his son to the Brickyard Vintage Invitational. We hope to see you there! Wear ear defenders (especially the kids)!

Just managing life with Tom one day at a time,

Chris (markviii)

I just wanted to post on here and thank you so much for the abbreviated tour of your shops yesterday. I felt really bad leaving early since you and Chris are such wonderful hosts. We just needed to hit the road and get back to STL after our trip for the week. You really have done an amazing job saving all of that history. Keep up the good work (as if you could do it any other way)!

We were so happy to be able to host this little get-together and meet you and others who were able to stop by over the three days. I wish I could have been around for the entire time, but Tom knows how to get you around to all the highlights of the shop, barn and larger property. I'm sure being on-site helps put things in better perspective than just viewing the pictures on a computer screen. Thanks so much for making the effort to stop by on your way home from what sounded like a wonderful event.

Thanks Chris and Thomas for putting on this event. It was great to be there and see something I have been reading about for so long. I'm sure you noticed I brought my camera. I have never posted pictures on garage journal before. It will be interesting for me to learn the procedure. First up, the center of the universe. DSC_7171.jpg

What a joy to show you around,TR6SR650! Being able to put things in perspective by actually seeing it in real life really helps. We always enjoy pictures people take because it shows details in a new light. I trust you had a smooth trip home.

I too would like to express my thanks for hosting folks to your home and shops over this past weekend. It was a bucket list thing for me to see it all in person. And Chris, you're right about getting a better perspective in person versus pictures online. What a fantastic job you two have done to save, renovate, improve and become caretakers of this great property. The attention to detail shows for sure whether it involves preserving Mr. Johnson's legacy or the addition of your own personal tastes in buildings and features.

Mr. Johnson would definitely be proud and as Thomas said, if he walked into the shop door tomorrow he'd feel right at home.

Of course I had to get a shot of my ride parked out front and had to pay homage to the famous wall plate and the Terraplane.

So awesome to see and visit with Lou there as well and look forward to seeing you both out in Bonneville in August.

Thanks again for being such gracious hosts and opening up your home and property. You have a very special place there and I enjoyed every minute there.

Bob

I'm bummed we couldn't make it to the open house but hope you had a good turnout! Such a generous thing to do!
I'm fortunate enough to only live a few hours away though and will make it there - soon hopefully. Last time we were there you just had the foundation poured for the house so it's been awhile and we'd love to see it in it's completed state!
Certainly can't see it all in one trip..lol

Thomas & Chris; thanks for the hospitality last weekend. We enjoyed our four hour tour on Friday afternoon. Got to the Philo Tavern for fish dinners right at 5PM. The wife got to sit in the Formula Ford racer, and then see Bob Ross, James Dean, and Jim Davis on the way home. Thanks for hosting us. See you at Stanton.

Hello Thomas and Chris - going on 6 weeks without any posts; care to update us on what's going on? Hope all is well.

That seems to be a reasonable request so sure I'll do an update tomorrow, August 1st. And for those who can't wait, yes all is better than well around here. Chris is even more the object of my affection than she knows, Lou has been has kept busy doing various projects as have I and Bonneville is just around the corner. Details to follow. Thanks for your interest! Cheers.

LOL! Yes, it would take time to dial 911. Back then we were supposed to just dial "0" and the operator would connect with the police or whatever. I grew up with dial phones and our neighbors had and used a phone just like the one Thomas and Chris have. All with 7 digit phone numbers.
