Clean, catalog picture worthy, and, if toolchests can be elegant, those certainly fit the definition!

Yes, I'm partial, but I would have to agree with you Lugs

When I was a kid I would push this around the Aircraft hangers on the Tulsa Airport, before it became the Tulsa International airport. It lived in Hanger One, and later I think Hanger two. And other great hangers over the airport during my Dad's entire career. Fuzzy on the exact history but I believe both are gone now. To make room for more airstrip and other progress. Those hangers were beautiful things. WPA built out of native limestone with wooden beams overhead. I loved the job of being able to drive the TUG to open and close the doors.
Sorry I got off on a nostalgic track there, it was a perfect time.

Man, I am sooo late to the party! Y’sguy, amazing job on that work of art. What are the dimensions? With the tools in it, it looks bigger than what I’m imagining. Great job again!

Ohmthis, Thanks for your good question. It's not a large box by today's standards, pretty compact actually, but is very efficient for my needs. I have also made the effort to pare down any redundancy in hand tools that I had and consolidate things. This has actually helped workflow as I'm not digging thru a pile of tools like I was before. Also, I was able to put together a decent set of tools to give to my son for his use with all my extras.
The bottom roller is 32 1/2" wide x 36" Tall x 16 1/2" deep. I look at a lot of new boxes that are out there and so far haven't seen one I like as much as these.
Thank you for the compliment and for looking in!

Hello Y’sguy,
What an outstanding project ! It’s all the better having your Father’s history attached to it.
I looked in your thread but may have missed what color you chose. It looks like Ford Wimbledon White to me. That’s a classy set!

Stay safe,

Shawn

Hi Shawn, Thanks for asking about the color. It is actually a Sherwin Williams color "Marshmallow" which I chose because it DOES resemble the Color, Wimbledon White or Colonial White. Also the color of my garage and home interior! I'm a hopeless FORD fan, so that did help bend it in that color direction. You may be too if you recognized the color?

I appreciate the follow up! I’m taking note of the S-W Marshmallow as I’m redoing a Snapon K21 and want a classy white like this. My bullnose ford was WW, and I do love the old Ford’s of that livery! Your box looks great . Enjoy the fruits of your labor, and thank You for the info!

Farmer J yes, surprisingly one of the first mistakes I've ever made! NOT. Thanks, they are clean!, I have already broken in one of them with a scratch though. Had to happen sooner or later. They are just toolboxes, right? My understanding wife allowed me to do this assembly insidde the house on a limited time basis! I can't push my luck with it as bedroom furniture. But those times that I get to spend QST it will already be out there.

twertsy Yeah, I am fortunate to have this one. The top box I came across by accident. That was about 40 years ago. Gadzooks!

Got the casters setup and on it's feet again. Used some silcone sealer to add some bumpers inside to keep the panel doors from clanking against the back inside. The brackets and slides were bent from over the years when I took it apart. As some of you know these originally had a cool art deco wheel fairing on the bottom. I never saw it and my Dad installed this setup eons ago. The originals did not swivel, you had to lift with the handles and turn, as I have been told.

Was anxious to put the stainless trim back and dreading it. The tape turned out to not be necessary, really. I used pet. jelly on the trim brackets, and a rubber mallet. The popped right back on without any chipping or damage. It might be a miracle! :bounce:

Back on it's feet, with doors adjusted.

Fixed the S C R E E C H ing sound of the handles moving in and out with some silicone sealer and scraps of radiator heater hose. Also bump stops on them. smooth as buttah…now

Just a few more things to do to completion. Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Thank you for asking Dieselclunker! I have no immediate plans to make more. But if you want to gather up some other folks to order some I wouldn't mind at all. I've also been asked about round ones by one other but no follow-up. Let me know what you would like to do.
