bringing back an old thread, i have a bunch of tools and a stupid payment on a snap on box that i do not want to pay anymore. im debating on selling my box and using the money left over after paying off what i owe to buy two of these bad boys. i know their high quality ive seen rthem and played with them. my question is, does anyone know of a source to get extra drawerr slides? i never checked if the box had hole to mount additional slides anyway. anyone know if it is possible? or if other slides will work correctly... thanks in advance

I just bought the box this past weekend. While I was in the store I did the manager if there any additional or accessory box available, he said the top box will be coming out either the end of this year or the 1st quarter of next year and the other accessories they offer are for the 44" box. Also when you look at the assembly diagram it states no spare parts available. Either way I am happy I got the box.

Bzzz...WRONG!

The 56 top box is out NOW, and in stores. I put my hands on one today. Pics when I leave work and head back to HF.

(unfortunately I am not buying the big boy, just the HF 44 top!)

Post more pics of your 56" combo top and bottom set ups guys....
Really thinking of pulling the trigger and getting the whole setup
what else do you need? Two people posted pics on your other thread. I posted the specs for the top box. And socket layout in my box.

I believe he wants us to pick him up in a limo ,drive his *** to HF,pay for the box, haul it home ,unpack it and then organize all of his tools into it.
Also we would need to document the entire process just in case the box suddenly looks different than the multiple photos posted already .
As we are reminded things are bigger in Texas, sometimes it isn't always brains and buckets of common sense.

Sorry to hijack the original thread.

Socket trays fit. So does stacking boxes in the drawers. So does anything else you can think of. Why don't you buy the box and start posting some pics of how you filled yours.

Nice! I was beginning to worry a little that I may have overloaded my top drawer and then I ran across your pic. any idea of the individual weight capacity of that top drawer is ? I know it's got double slides, here's mine:

I would guess my socket drawer is around 300lbs. It doesn't flex, the drawer slides right out, and it doesn't wiggle. I wish it had the full length top drawer, but I have learned to live with it. I would like to get the 72" HF box and get rid of the 56" and 44". I need to get some more space back in my garage.

They're really not bad for the price. But it's nowhere near the quality of a Snap On, MATCO or MAC box

Fair enough, impossible to rebut that point.

For a weekend warrior like me though, I searched and could not find a better value anywhere.

At first I felt a twinge putting my SO ratchets and 3/8 socket sets into the HF box. Then I paused and realized, with the $1200 I saved I could now afford to by the SO 1/2 sockets I've always wanted. :p

I agree, 100%. I think they're better quality than craftsman boxes honestly (talking about fallen quality over the past 20 years).

Well if I had more tools I'd definitely get one. The smaller 44" chest and rolling cabinet I have seems to be doing just fine and I've had it for about 8 or 9 years now, and it sits outside all year on my carport. Don't know why they come with wheels once you load these down you can't move them around anyhow LOL. The larger size 56" setup would just mean I need more tools LOL. Wait...hmm great excuse well honey I bought a new tool box I'm going to go buy some more tools now :).

Years have gone by which is the exact point of my post. How is the longevity and sustainably of the US General boxes? Casters are easy and cheap to upgrade. While interested in any caster failures, I'm much more interested in drawer and drawer bearing issues.
My purpose is to house machinist tools, chucks, tooling, etc. E.g pretty damn heavy once loaded.
Therefore, please advise. Would you buy UD General tool boxes again and "load them up".
Thanks!
