Reznor UDAP 45 Exhaust Vent Options

Looking at different options to run the B Vent vertical through the roof; with mounting the unit in the corner of garage. The picture below helps explain my two options.

Option 1 - run the exhaust directly through the roof where the unit will be mounted in corner of garage. From gutter probably 5'. Will this be an issue with potential snow drifts on roof being in Michigan

Option 2 - run the exhaust up, and then on an angle riding the roof slop, then exhaust towards the top of the roof. This option requires more pipe and not sure if affects exhaust performance with the angles of the run.

Front, side or back of the building would make a huge difference on all options as far looks ?

2’ in 10’ rule is not going to good look if end up with 4’ stack in some situations

Exhaust is on rear slope of garage.
I asked a local contractor (reputable) and did not mention it needed to exhaust above the ridge vent...

Ran that by another contractor and said same thing.

Check local code for stack height to roof and peak dimensions; the cost to trust but verify is cheap.

For the 'plumbing,' I'm always a fan of KISS. Option 1.

Thats what i was told by local licensed professional. And also from other folks in HVAC...so i guess i just need it to be a 'certain height' from shinges. Pitch is 5/12 so nothing major. No walls on either side of garage. No valleys, etc. Basic roof, no dormers, no rev gable etc.

How far above shingles ?

Needs to be minimum 12". I prefer a high wind style cap in a situation like this.

I have 2 Reznor units, one each in 2 car garages. I love them! Quiet and does the job. We vented out the side of one and the back wall of the other. At first I thought it would look stupid... a big exhaust with a big round vented end that is almost the size of a basketball! It looked fine. Really professional. I don't even notice it any more, and one of them is on the driveway side. Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps the decision. I can post a couple pictures if you'd like.

Let me know if you can see the pictures. I took a video, but can't seem to get it to link here. The sound of the unit is low except for when it starts up... you can hear the ticking of the ignitor and when it stops...the fan kind of makes a louder noise. Not terrible, just more noticeable. I'll try and get you the video as well as pictures of my side vent and I also have a neighbor who vented his through the roof of a new stand alone garage. He said if he had to do it again, he'd do it out the side like mine.

As your pitch is 5/12, which falls in the flat to 7/12 range, a minimum of 12" is required. Call your local municipality's Building Inspector if you want to be certain. Snow might be a consideration - less so in Monroe, more so in Marquette.

That's out the side of the garage on the driveway side. I don't even notice it any more. The other one is smaller...about the size of a cantaloupe! It's out the back of a new garage. I'll be able to get a picture of my neighbor's vent by the weekend. I'd go out the side of your garage if it were me. It seems easier, less expensive and no worries with snow.

I mounted my Reznor UDAP150 using option #1. Mine goes straight up and is about 5-6' from the eve. We get snow here in Northern Utah as well but no issues with even coming close to the exhaust flue.

I did a vertical through the roof......I live in Indiana. We get our share of cold temps and snow fall

Do you remember what brand vent cover these are? Cat III?
