unbranded, clearly not high quality
3/8" female square drive at both ends. Both ends have lead in and notches for a retaining ball so not for a square pipe plug.
How is this used? Mistake??

I made up a similar arrangement once to drive a square-drive spare tire lifting winch, but it was 1/2 drive. I put an 8 point socket on my u-joint but that thing of yours would have been better. That is the one time in my life I've ever needed a female to female u-joint.

I agree this is either homemade or a factory flub, not a normally available configuration. I vote for the latter given QC standards at the cheap tools factories.

I have a couple of square to square sockets, from back in the old days when female drive ratchets were a thing. Seems I might have a universal like that, but no time to look right now.

Might ask on the vintage side, but pick a better title, else you might get ignored.

Aha, this makes sense because the more I look at this thing the more I feel I've seen this before.
I'm married so accustomed to being ignored.
