The thing with a Y splice is the leading wire should be a larger gauge wire than the exiting wires.

Didn't read the whole post. Not sure if this was mentioned before or not.
MSC Direct. You can get yellow heat shrink **** connectors. They have a blue line on 1 side.The blue line takes 1) 14 gauge wire. The other side takes 2) 14 gauge wires. Crimp it, heat it, seal it. We use them all the time on concrete mixers. Works really well and quick and easy.
