I bought a 1/2 hp pedestal Rigid sump pump about 2.5 years ago. Well sometime in the last few days it froze up, and threw the breaker. I tried a few different things to unfreeze it, but nothing would budge it.

The reason i bought it in the first place was that it had a lifetime warranty, no questions asked. I took it back to Home Depot today and found the plumbing guy, told him what was going on and asked him how does this work? He said just grab the same model, and take your old one to the return desk and let them know your lifetime warranty pump died and that you are getting a replacement.

As i start to turn around he tells me that they new longer offer a lifetime warranty on there pumps, instead its 3 years.

Being that i paid a 50% premium for that lifetime warranty i was kind of upset, but decided to play it cool and swap it out. I have an email into Rigid describing the situation and letting them know im unhappy about it. I asked for them to let me know what they can do to help me out.

For anyone who cares, ill post the email response when it comes back (if it comes back).

Consider buying the cheap brands. They sieze up too when not in use for long periods of time, but I've found that you can remove a couple of screws from the bottom that gives you access to the rotor. Once you are in there, rotate it by hand a few times to get it loose and running again. Reassemble and run it again.
Immersed pumps live in a dirty place, so you have to expect problems with them.

Replace them every 4 years. Or...replace everything in the basement including the water heater and furnace and laundry machines. Oh...and have them drop flood from your insurance so you get to pay yourself. These things take a beating.

Guys, I'm about to ease your minds when it comes to sump pump failures and flooded basements. When I first moved in My basement was flooded due to a failed sump pump. I replaced the sump pump and bought a battery back up unit just in case of failure again. Well a couple years later our power was out due to a storm. It was out long enough that the battery on the back up pump died from use.
So we get basement flood #2... I was getting tired of replacing furniture carpets etc in my finished basement So I went out and bought a portable Generator as a back up. the problem with that plan is that if I'm not home and we lose power, I'm screwed.

So I searched the web to try to find a better battery back up Pump and I came across this little wonder. It is called the Basepump and it has relieved me of any worries of having a sump pump failure.
Dont take this as a sales pitch because it's not. It's just one homeowner telling another about a great product that works. And it works perfectly.
The Basepump is a WATER powered Back up sump pump system and it works 100% as they claim. Yep, I said Water powered..... It took me about 45 minutes to install. Piece of cake..
Since buying and installing this pump, We've had some major storms and power outages and this thing performed flawlessly.. Our power was out for 4 days during Hurricane Irene last year and we had record rainfall during that period. The pump kept up with the storm and kept the basement dry... I highly recommend this to all of my friends who have Sump pumps. It was the best $350 I've ever spent. Total piece of mind. No more worries..here's a link to the product

Water venturi systems are not code approved in many places, most of those places are places that flood frequently.

The problem is that if you are flooding it is because your ground or the sewer system is at maximum capacity already so every home on the block turning the water on full blast to pump out water into an already flooded system or situation just compounds the problem.

If everyone turned on their water at the same time the pressure would be lost and none would have a pump.

If this is the best product I would tell you to buy the basement canoe system, it has room for the whole family and you can run your TV set from it's battery for 12 hours while drifting in the basement.:)

Nice sales pitch though, the bots did a great job at finding the topic.

Maybe i should have included a disclaimer about checking your local codes. But I assure you it was not intended as a sales pitch.. i was just stating that to me this product solved a frustrating situation for me. Take it or leave it, I was just trying to help.... Mods, you can delete it if you think it's a sales pitch..

exactly my point as well. I drive a Heavy Duty Wrecker for a living and I am usually not home during storms. My wife and my son are not capable of getting the generator out. So If the power goes out or if I have a pump/switch failure, the water powered pump will deal with it until I can get home and get the Generator going. I am also not in a flood prone area. It's just a cover my **** thing for me...I call it the basement saver... LOL

Skip the whole issue by paying more attention when buying a home. Do not buy a home that requires a year-round sump pump.
