Hi all,

After some distractions from general home remodeling, I'm finally getting serious about refurbishing my 20x20 attached garage.

Attached is a diagram of the floor plan I'll be working with.

The transformation so far has involved:
1) Gut rotted osb/drywall and crappy bench/shelves to expose framing (and see what I was dealing with).
2) Address some structural issues I wasn't comfortable with. This thread from a while back is what I've dealt with, and I'll followup in a day or two with the solution I came up with.
3) Plumbed in a wash sink. Part of the remodel was to move the laundry out of the garage and into the house. This made it fairly simple to also add a sink at shared wall.
4) Move/add some man-doors. The primary entrance to the house was along the top wall of my floor plan (and not code). That's been replaced by a proper door on the left wall now. I also added a new exterior man door on the upper wall that leads out to the side yard.
5) Shrinking the garage door. The original door was a barely functional 16x7 door (un-insulated, cracked panels, non-functional opener). I've shrank the opening to be 12x7 instead now and a new insulated door is getting installed next week.

The next immediate work will be:
6) Wire up for light workshop use (some metal work, some woodworking, car maintenance, etc). I'll start a thread in the Light/Elec forum about this.
7) Insulate walls and ceiling and drywall it in.

In the next week I'll be moving some of the contents around for access purposes and will add pics of where it's starting from. I have some general ideas about how things will layout once I get to that point but will appreciate additional thoughts for that ...

- Rob

I'm always keen to see what people are capable of doing to a double garage. Good luck as you move forward in your plans.

This space is a serious downsize from what I had previously.
It's also a relatively clean slate.
The biggest challenge is needing the space for staging/workspace while house remodel progresses.

It has been a while since I've updated, but progress is being made.

1) Wiring is done (aka. I won't need to get into a panel again)
I have:
* 1 120v/15a circuit for lights (3-way switched)
* 1 120v/20a circuit along the east wall that is mostly dedicated for 'electronics'
* 2 120v/20a circuits feeding outlets roughly every 4' feet on north/south walls.
* 1 120v/30a circuit into the SE corner that I expect to use for a fridge/freezer (the breaker was free, and a short run).
* 1 240v/50a outlet on my north wall (a 14-50 fed with 6/3)
* 1 240v/30a over to where a well pump needs it (might make this an outlet for an alternate 'welder' plug)

The light circuit is capped at the moment while I insulate and drywall the ceiling (I'll add 'old-work' boxes and fish wire afterwords since I can crawl into the attic space).

For a 20x20 space, this might be overkill, but honestly not really.

I found some before pics ...

In progress pics might be harder to get, but I'll try.
