we just had a few days of warm weather here in Edmonton Alberta so i decided to put my rock solid full chip floor in. I waited for my helper to arrive, which was late in the evening, and we got at. i turned down the overhead heater to give us more time to work as we were green to the flooring industry, the 24 by26 garage took us just over an hour and went on as planned. The floor looked great, my helper went home and i went to bed to let dry. The next day i scraped and vacuumed up the chips as directed, floor was hard as could be. Then i proceeded to put the top coat on and it just put the icing on the cake when i was done. The only thing is that its been a full 24 hrs and the top coat is still not dry, very tacky as compared to the day before being oily. Its still plus 5 outside, i have a window cracked and the overhead is on room temp. Should i just wait longer or did i ruin my new fancy floor some how?????

Yes it did, it had the burst bags that mix together by pushing one pouch into the attached next pouch. great set up with no mess but its still very tacky. Getting worried here that i might have done something wrong?!?!?!

Polyurea top coat should have dried in just a few hours. It sounds like the top coat may have a temperature range for installation as most do. If it falls under the required temperature the proper chemical reaction does not occur... It may cure just very slowly...

I have no experience with this kit but I am experienced with polyurea.

thats kind of what i was thinking so i just checked by the front big garage door where its a lot cooler as the heater is on the opposite side of the garage and its still the same. The garage is set at room temp still. Dunno?

Sounds like a possible mixing issue. As in not mixed thoroughly enough.
I really hope I'm wrong. My experience with 2 part epoxy has been with boatbuilding and repairs not floor coatings.

What is "room temp?"

I realize now that it is not epoxy but polyurea.

Their website says the install temp can be as low as 0*.
Your ratios were probably correct because they were pre-measured.
So I think that still leaves how well it was mixed together as the probable issue.

If it were me the next step would be to contact Rock Solid for help.
Let us know what happens so we can all learn.

The lower the temp, the longer the cure. Give it a couple days or more.

I suspect that the slab temperature is a good deal below the room temp that the thermostat is set to. The guys are probably right in that it may take a couple days or so to cure the surface. May take even longer to cure all the way through. If you still have some of that material left in the can, bring the can inside the house where it's warm. If that hardens up, then you know the mix was probably okay and it will just take time for the floor to cure out.

I just went through the same thing. The grey base color with chips went on smooth, dried good, and had a high gloss. I should have stopped there, but I went ahead and put on the clearcoat. The next day, it had small micro-bubbles in the finish. I could have lived with that. The gloss was not as high as the grey without the clearcoat. It felt dry. I let it set for 2 days before I started moving anything back in. When I started moving things back in I noticed it felt sticky. My wife noticed my footprints so she took a rag with water only on it to wipe the footprints. Everywhere she wiped it took the gloss off. So now I had a floor with a line across the middle with no shine. I rolled a power washer across the floor and it left black tire marks. I tried water to clean it up and that did not work, so I tried Windex and that did not work, so I went to Fantastic. That got the black marks off but it also took off the gloss. I called Rocksolid's tech line and they said I could put another coat of clear over it and it would be alright and they would pay for it. But I am reluctant to put more over the top if there are solvents trapped in the coating and are working their way out. If I put more over the top won't that trap more in and cause more problems? By the way the temperature was 70 and the humidity was 50%. This Tuesday and we have guests coming on Saturday, this has turned into a nightmare.

For what it is worth, I had the same issue with one section of my 1300 sq ft Epoxy Coat install - the color coat was rock hard, but couple of months later the clear coat on a 10'x12' section can still be scraped off with a thumbnail. Mfg suggested I put another coat of clear over it. Waiting for a good day to do so. Will report how that ends up.

Check the expiration date of the clear coat. I have read of similar drying problems with this stuff due to the shelf life of the top coat being exceeded. You can call the mfg with the serial number to get a production date.
