Well sub panel should be signed off this week so now I'm going to pull the trigger on some roll up doors but had some questions.
I found 2 places with similar prices. i think they might be the same place with different names honestly, its odd that when i selected "pick up" instead of shipping, both places have the same pick up city.
any way, i was going to go with a simple chain setup and look into a motor later because the first places i looked, roll up doors direct, wants $1k for a "Hiro" motor.
i've looked around and it seems like you can get a Liftmaster for half the price if I'm looking at the right opener type.
the other site, doors on line, sells a "easy roller" motor for half that but looks kinda gimmicy. any experience with these?
this site is a few hundred more with all the same options and both selling the Janus 2500 door.
i also didn't select insulation, header seal or brushes. not sure if its worth it.

any opinions would be great. trying to sort out the motor situation because it would mean running 2 circuits for the Hiro motor or just one for the Easy roller, apparently it only draws 2A.

Steel Door Depot is part of Janus. Other online retailers may allow pickup directly from Janus too.

The Ideal roll up doors sold at Menards are Janus 2500 doors if you get the more expensive version. (My Ideal roll up door is labeled 2500 on it.) Menards is probably less expensive if you want shipped to store versus pick up from Janus. Menards will likely also have the 11% rebate again in February or March if you can wait.

Finally, Menards has their Rays List where they have roll up doors on clearance. You can sometimes save a lot if you can find one the right size close enough to pick up. I got my door brand new from Menards in Manhattan, KS. It was a long drive, but I still saved a decent chunk of money.

I bought my Janus 2500 doors from rollup doors direct and picked up locally from the Janus facility in Houston.
Ordered on the phone with the online order for reference. Spoke with Mercedes who was very knowledgeable with all the questions I had.

Their website says or at least did indicate "easy roller" opener.
Not the case though. From what I remember for the 2500 the Hiro motor is the one for those doors and thats what I got. Made by Automatic Technologies, very easy to install.
Not sure why you'd need 2 circuits like you mention though.
If you order with a chain hoist and later decide to get the Hiro motor, be aware you'll have to support the door, dismantle the left and right angle brackets and put the left on the right and the right on the left. The instructions say to "invert" the brackets. Confusing. Wth? Made a phone call and they explained swap left and right brackets.
I did order the insulation package with the standard top and side seals, none of which I used. The top seal was too narrow and made no contact with the header. The side seals (plastic) that go on the inside of the rail seemed cheap and would not conform to the ribs on the door.
I ended up buying brush seals which work fine but are expensive.
If I did it again I would insulate the door myself and buy brush seals or buy their insulation package and upgrade to the brush seals from them.
Eta
Easy install and setup. Very quiet. Expensive , kind of, but other places were similar in price.

Are you self-installing?

I have 3 x 10'x14' roll up doors. I hate them. They rattle (in the wind), they are difficult to seal up (bugs/air). But they are cheap. I won't install one again.

I'd really recommend a panel door, the swing is probably 50-75% more (I can reference a thread on some pricing).

Jackshaft openers - Liftmaster and Chamberlain are what I've been using and love them. Chains have worked just fine for me though...

thank you guys.
My local pick up location would be Anaheim, CA.
i would be installing the 4 14x14 doors.
that yellow opener is what i was referring to. it only draws 2A vs 11.2A for the liftmaster. now that I'm looking again, the easy roller and Hiro motor might be the same thing, just one site is charging much more. for the $1k they're charging, it be worth it to look into a Liftmaster which is a few hundred less? I'll be getting 3 doors total.
is it possible to use a motor while stilling having the chain option?

yes i will be doing this myself. they will be 3 14x14 doors. i went with this for the compact design, not too worried about the noise, this is shop after all.

i was told by a garage door company that you just use a "peel and stick" insulation on them.
You can, it "rolls up" with the door, but the typical bigger problem is sealing the door at the sides and top. There are solutions, but it'll never seal as well as a panel door.

You can have a chain and an opener, but I hear the mechanics are more complex.

How did you attach the insulation to the door?

I thought maybe you are in Elk Grove, Illinois which is why I mentioned Menards.

I would think a 2 amp motor would be slow due to the gearing it would need versus an 11 amp motor. I was able to get the Liftmaster opener for a roll up door for $500 on clearance at Menards. I still need to order the $105 Janus electric opener kit. (Menards wanted $337 for the kit.)

No worries, I'll fix that.
This Menards place sounds awesome lol
I thought the same thing about that motor but the guys above seem to like it.
What lift master motor did you get?
Didn't realize that motor would need a kit as well.

The easy roller and hiro are not the same. The hiro is a heavier duty motor. They do look similar.
Looking at the specs the easy roller is good for up to 180sq ft of door. Too small for a 14x14 which is 196 sq ft

The hiro is good up to 300 sq ft.

My doors are 14x14 and are heavy.
U hope you have a way to lift them into place. I built a cradle and used my tractor bucket.
14ft is way up there. Doesn't seem like it but it is.
My 65hp tractor with about a 2ft high cradle I built was tall enough by about 2 inches. I actually had to add some height to the cradle.

It can be done but I would just hire it out if I had to do it again.
With the install and adjustment it was some real work. Up and down the ladder about 100 times per door. Good exercise though.
20 years ago when i was 40 or even 10 years ago would've been no issue.
But me and my 16 yo son got it done.
He don't like ladders so he was mainly the observer to make sure i was lined up and not damage the building with the tractor bucket. Lol

You can rent a Genie Material lift pretty reasonable. Its like a manual forklift that works great for door installs.

thank you for the info.
i own a scissor lift and a buddy has a forklift i can borrow so i should be good.

as far as the motors go, what would be the best option then? doesn't seem like the easy roller would work and the Hiro is $1k. would it be worth it to look at other brands? any recommendations?

It cost me around $250 to rent the equipment. There is no way I could have had it installed for $250.

I believe the opener I bought is the Liftmaster MJ 50 11 U.

Do you happen to have a picture of how it's installed?
Not installed yet as my door came with chain hoist. I didn’t realize I needed the electric operator kit to install the opener. The kit was weeks to get through Menards. I didn’t realize at the time that this is a Janus door and I could use the Janus kit.

ok so it looks like I'd need a kit to be able to use a lift master opener which adds about $200 per door.
another thing to take into account.
thank you
