One thing that I noticed about the ratchets from Harbor Freight, Tekton, and Carlyle is that the split has a sharp edge. I haven't had my HF ratchet for long so I don't yet know if the chrome will peel at the edge. I don't like getting cuts from chrome.

The Craftsman is much smoother at the split. Unfortunately, I prefer other handles though. I've been thinking about buying a Craftsman and adding a screwdriver handle. But I figure if I wait, there will be more from other brands.

For anyone looking for an awesome roto ratchet, Napa has the 3/8" R38S100 on sale for $29.99 until March 12th. The online pricing sometimes doesn't match depending on which store you pick, but it's in the current Dealer Days flyer, and the stores will match that price if it comes up different in your store.

I'm almost tempted to pick up another one at that price...

I tried three different locations in the Southern California area and none were able to sell it to the general public at that price. One was going to give it to me for $29.99 until he was unable to key it in. He then realized that it was the wholesale price and was meant for dealers. Oh well, I tried! Online was $76.99.

I dunno if I love this site or hate this site. The LAST thing I need is another 3/8” ratchet, but I couldn’t resist. Thank you, or curse you, sir!

I just purchased my 3/8 Carlyle Ratchet. Does anyone know how to service it? It could use some lubrication as it does not feel very smooth but again I just got it so..........

I don't want to wear it out LOL :lol_hitti But a good point about soaking as I don't see any clips or screws to take it apart.

There should be a Torx screw underneath the silver cap in the middle where the direction lever is. On the cornwell versions (as well as the MAC and Matco) there’s no cap jus the Torx screw showing.

the cap type tend be factory crimped on & non serviceable which a shame as bit of grease improves these greatly .

hmm, i got the 1/4 version, good ratchet but man that thing is stiff. I've soaked it in ATF with not much improvement but will try the drill tactic too.
i'll also try to get that little chrome cap off, might get lucky

Good suggestion about the cap, let me know if you succeed.

nuts....worked that cap hard and doesn't seem to be a way to get it off. I guess I could drill a tiny hole into it and try to pull it off with a pick. have to stew on that first though...

You wont, the drill helps "polish" the edges on the pawls a bit then the atf gives it a bit of help.

These arent smooth ratchets imo even after a fair bit of use.

I just received the 1/4 drive Swivel head Carlyle and it feels much smoother than the 3/8.

When I looked at several 1/4" swivels, the Carlyle was the notchiest, the Pittsburgh Pro the smoothest and the Icon was somewhere in the middle. The Icon and Carlyle both felt much sturdier. For the $$, I wound up keeping the Icon and the PP, but if I see a Carlyle wander by at a good price I'll probably grab it...
