I worked at a couple of shops that had O, ACT and Argon piped in the walls. Why is everybody assuming it will leak? If installed properly it would be fine. Do you assume the water pipes in your house will leak? Yea I know water won't kill you but I think you get my point. Oxygen has been piped in medical buildings as long as I can remember.
If it would make you feel better then surface mount it and use quick connects at the outlets.
Of course we are talking hard pipe here and not hoses.

Water pipes in a wall leak quite often. And comparing water to a gas mixture is two different ballgames altogether. I really hope you weren't serious with that remark. Do you EVER see natural gas lines behind a wall, Propane behind a wall, Oxy/Acet behind a wall? No. You know why? It's explosive. What do you think would happen if a pocket of gas built up in the same wall cavity as an electrical outlet, or a light switch?

While this is true it doesn't mean its practical or a good idea for the diy crowd,,, mostly because it adds a layer of extra equipment to a system that has been pretty well defined for decades. I like that the OP came back and looked in.

I made the point that it be "installed properly". One would like to presume that some due diligence would come into play here.
You made the point, and I agree that he should use a cart. A cart takes up a little more space than the two cylinders and you are not trying to store 100' of hose.

My hoses usually last no more than 2 - 3 years without developing cracks. I sure wouldn't want them inside a wall.

No hoses or cords in a wall unless approved, Pex etc.

I think this is a good thread. If everyone aint doing it there may be reasons, it may be possible, makes it way different than practical.

The upside to all this mental ************ is I just realized I have at least 4 empty bottles could go in to storage building till refill, they could actually go there full too. Just gave my shop a low cost addition of a few square ft.

They steel mill I worked at had hard plumbed lines for O/A and many other gases. The torches had drops just like an air line, on a retractable reel and all.

My local community college hard piped their O/A gas lines from the outside tank storage area to the classroom workstations. I think they used black pipe but I am not sure. They kept all welding gas tanks outside at the far corner of the building with a big tall strong fence around the 30 or so tanks.
