Does anyone shop in a Rural King brick and mortar store? They have a great selection of shovels and axes as well as Milwaukee power tools. They also have bulk .22 ammo.

I love that store, unfortunately there aren't any nearby. I did hear however they are building one in a neighboring town, so I am pretty excited about that, I will be there often.

I shop at RK on a regular basis. Ours is located right next door to Tractor Supply, I shop either depending on what I am buying. My biggest beef with RK is that they are VERY slow to restock if the run out of something, often a month or more (maybe just my store's management). They have the best price on Evapo-Rust.

Sort of a side story:
Our RK occupies a building that use to be a furniture store that closed at 5pm on Saturdays. We had a great cruise in in the parking lot for many years sponsored by Burger King and Taco Bell, also flanking the parking lot. When RK came they started taking over the parking lot with their trailers and gardening supplies forcing the cruise-in into a smaller and smaller space. RK shoppers were driving through the car show crowds and parking between vehicles on display. Eventually the cruise-in was forced to leave. Next door at Tractor Supply their much smaller parking lot became in effect the overflow lot for the Texas Roadhouse on the other side. It got so bad on Fri/Sat that Tractor Supply had to put up "TSC only" signs and threaten towing parked cars.

I frequently drive past one about 30 miles from here, but I've never been in there. I need to give it a look.

Yeah, I was in Tennessee in October and visited the one in my hometown. They still give free popcorn like Ace, and they have a massive selection of Carhartt clothes, industrial tools, and power tools. In a lot of ways they're like a premium Tractor Supply Co, and a lot of their prices for things like a trailer hitch or a shovel can be competitive with a store like Harbor Freight. Great place to buy chain, rope, or fasteners too.

When I was growing up, the CEO/owner travelled to all the stores frequently and flew a little one-man helicopter between locations. He'd just land in the parking lot and stroll in like, you know, he owned the place, and was very hands on with running the stores. I don't know if they're still like that as they've grown, but I always thought it was really cool.

They are the place to buy motor oil, hydraulic oil, fluids, car/truck/tractor/mower batteries. They have a tremendous selection of that stuff. Great ammo selection too.

Visited RK for the first time today — one on the far south end of the little Southeastern Ohio town where I grew up. Seemed like a pretty good selection. I was pleased to see an unlocked rack of dozens and dozens of individual DeWalt sockets and combination wrenches. Looked sorta like Sears of old.

Probably three or four times the size of the Tractor Supply on the north end of town, although not quite as crowded so that doesn’t necessarily imply 4x as much stuff. Lots of work clothes and boots. Shelves full of multiple brands of 22LR bulk, as noted.

First trip there a few weeks ago and left with a brand new Quincy QT-54, two 3,500# tie-down straps (had to get the compressor home somehow :D) & 2 bricks of .22lr for plinking. Had been shopping for a new compressor for about a week and to be honest it was an impulse purchase since RK had the QT-5 $110 cheaper than anywhere else I had looked online or in brick & mortar.

You must be talking about the location in Hamilton! I used to go to the cruise-in’s at the Kroger parking lot when I lived there a few years ago. Just picked up a new Ruger 9mm at that Rural King a couple weekends ago.

You are correct. Now the cruise-in occupies a space about 1/10 of what it was before RK.

About 12 years ago I worked with an engineer that was here on a multi year assignment from our manufacturing plant in Japan. He was a real car guy and was like a kid in a candy store with our freedom to modify our vehicles compared to the restrictions in Japan. He had a 3rd gen Mazda RX7 twin turbo with a lot of "only available in Japan" after market upgrades that he had sent over from home. I talked him into bringing his car to the cruise-in on the one night a season that they had trophy competition. He ended up winning the people's choice award. He had brought his son who was about 10 yrs. old and that boy had a huge smile on his face and a death grip on the trophy the rest of the evening.

That’s a fantastic story! I had no idea Japan had tough restrictions on car modifications. That’s also a shame to hear how small the show has become. I had an apartment behind the Meijer across the road and we’d walk over to the show every Saturday during the summer. I’m back on the west side of Cincinnati now but still venture that way every couple of months for a Rural King visit. Nice to meet another local!
